Booboobrewer, can you mention which book that happened since I'm drawing a blank?

Kristy's family goes to Hawaii during the break between 99 and 100... so I'm assuming Karen went too.

What I meant was a book of the actual trip, where you could read what Karen and her family did in Hawaii. In Kristy's Worst Idea, I remember Kristy saying something along the lines of them spending a lot of time at the beach.

anzuhana, you already said yourself there's no book about it, so I'm confused by your posts...

I somehow got confused and thought there was an actual book of the trip to Hawaii before coming to my senses and realizing that there's no actual book about Karen's trip to Hawaii. Sorry for confusing you, booboobrewer.

I think it's very creepy to talk like that too....
Anyways when I read Claudia and the Bad Joke, I wondered if Karen ordered her items from the same catalogue as Betsy. I wanted the camera

I really don't have much to say on this book except I didn't like either the main (joke) plot or the gymnastic subplot, I am not a fan of either really, particularly jokes or pranks. What I did come on here to say that was kind of cool to realize last night is the dedication for this book from Ann is to Elisa from the Lisa Library. That was a BSC reference in daily life of sorts goes with my thread about us donating a birthday book for Afton. :)It was also cool because finally, I recognized (a non Perkins) dedication name.

All the "piggy" things they did were successfully disgusting!

I also like how the book is consistent in the gymnastics storylines into the later ones.

The only thing I remember from this book is Karen's Big House family pranking her and getting her good. She enters them in a "Beautiful Families" contest and then Elizabeth gets a co-worker to come over as the "judge" when the house is a mess and Karen's the only one dressed up. I remember her being especially mad at Sam because he promised he'd wear a tuxedo and then didn't!
I thought that was a pretty creative prank!

This may have been the first book that kicked off my BSC craze when I was learning to read so I have fond memories. I love the cover (although I think Karen looks older than a 7 year old), the practical jokes were fun and it was a great introduction to the big family. They went to so much trouble to trick Karen but she deserved it haha.

Karen didn't strike me as very athletic although she liked to be involved in lots of things. Cartwheels are kind of about having upper body strength, so maybe she just needed to get a little stronger. I pictured her manically cartwheeling through the Big House. I liked that the kids in the gymnastics class shut her down a bit. She finally realized that they were pretty nice and talkative, but they wanted to focus on the class. There's a picture of Karen doing very painful looking splits while her brothers laugh at her from the couch, lol. There's also an odd moment where Karen told Lisa that her feet stunk and then grabbed her foot, put it in front of her face, and took a huge whiff of it. Hmm.
I hate tricks and pranks. I don't remember ever celebrating April Fool's Day in school. Clearly Karen and her friends had never been to a Spencer Gifts store at the mall. I liked that Karen was on to everything that Bobby tried.
Random, but Boo Boo killed a mole and a bird in this one. He was a spry old guy.
The prizes for the contest were very different in worth. First prize, Hawaii trip. (Those contests are usually for a family of 4. Wouldn't that have added some drama if they had won?) Second prize, a vacuum cleaner. Third prize, "a hat or something." I'm old because I read that and thought it would be cool to win a vacuum.
ETA: One more thing. The filing cabinets on the cover freak me out. One looks like it is ten feet tall. It has at least 10 drawers.

I do not like April's Fools. Some tricks can be really mean. Luckily April's Fools Day is not a big thing where I live. Same goes for Halloween.
So Karen likes attention. It's apparent during gymnastics when she wants to make friends with her new class and is actually interfering with their learning. She decides they're too mean because they won't pay attention to her.
