This just sounds like it would be a funny book. They have to have made the tuba a special size for her. I mean I had a boyfriend who played the tuba in high school and he was 5'6" and it looked funny for him to play such a huge instrument!

It's been commented on a bit earlier, but how in the world did Emily Michelle carry the tuba from Karen's room to hers and was able to play it? Even though she can't read or write yet, she's awfully strong!

Gabbie was on my mind too, she's the only two year old in the world that can play baseball and follow directions LOL

You know, it might have really been a baritone horn. I don't think the brass instruments come in smaller sizes te way the string ones do.

I wish Karen would have tried another instrument later on in the series if not some kind of other musical activity

Sam was awesome and exactly what I meant when I said in the "Karen's New Friend," thread about loving "extra" BSC moments or character insights in the LS. I had no clue Sam played three instruments? Was that ever mentioned again or in a BSC book? I'm not sure how he taught all the kids to play "Here Comes the Bride," or frankly how they all learned it but it sure was sweet that he and they did. I also enjoyed reading about Ms. Colman and Mrs. Hoffman together. The only memory I have of a regular and sub teacher together was from 10th grade English and the scene was not happy like in his book. It was cool to see them get along and also come together for a positive reason. I do wonder though how Karen got Mrs. H's address to send her the class invitation. I was glad she was able to attend their concert and loved when Karen reminded Ms. Colman about Sam's contributions. I know it is easy to take preference on Charlie as the ideal older brother but Sam at heart I always thought was a good guy and this is just an example of that.

Blarin' Karen! Blarin' Karen!!!
So we know that it's not just the BSC that are overachievers but even goofy Sam is a music casanova. Seriously. How can a teenage boy that busy, into sports, has jobs, school AND plays 3 instruments!?

Sam is the underrated golden child I suppose.

I thought it was pretty unrealistic that each child/group of children would be taken out of class for a private music lesson. Talk about annoying for the teacher! Lots of class time would be missed and because it would be various kids missing it at various times, it would be really hard to catch up. This wouldn't happen in real schools. They'd most likely have a designated music period and stick to that.

It was just temporary, not permanent. We did something for 1 or 2 weeks too at school back in grade 8, a 45 minute music class separate from our actual music class about the history of rock and roll for those of us who wanted to do it.

^ I figured it was temporary. Nevertheless, it would still be annoying.

I think it's cool that Addie chose the saxophone, and Nancy and Ricky wanted to keep playing their instruments (clarinet and trombone). We only had recorders and Orff instruments, and then at the end of 5th grade got to see the band instruments. The flute and clarinet looked nice to me, but I knew I wanted to be in choir in middle school He was also in Math Club. You'd think Kristy would brag on her brother's achievements once in awhile, but nope.
