I liked Karen hanging out with Addie in this book and the mystery they solved.

I liked Addie in this one too. It was cute how they wanted to wear the safety badges so badly. I’ve never been to a school where they have safety patrols, inside the school. When I was in elementary school we had to stand outside in the freezing weather waving at traffic to move forward.

I really liked that we got to know Addie more in this book. She became more of a person than just the girl in the wheelchair in Karen's class. I thought that the mystery they solved was cute as well.

Funny how Nancy's hair grows back the next book I don't see how Karen thought that them not doing their job wuold out weigh the fact they caught the thiefs, considering they did it while doing their job, essentially. And of course the ring got stolen, no brainer there Nancy.

I just reread this one a few days ago (Going through all the LS books in order). One thing that stuck out in my mind when they were nominating people to be on the safety patrol thing... Audrey nominated Vicky Anders Who the hell is Vicky Anders. I'm on Karen's Grandad right now and Karen went through all the people in her class (there are 18.) Karen, Hannie, Nancy, Natalie, Ricky, Bobby, Addie, Audrey, Terri, Tammy, Leslie, Pamela, Jannie, Ian, Omar, Hank, Chris and Sara. No Vicky. I couldn't find any mention of her in any other books. Pamela and Addie were the only new students. What is up with that?

I liked the interaction between Karen and Addie in the book. The mystery wasn't bad.
Maybe it's an inconsistency.

This was my first time reading this book - ever. Did anyone else have Safety Patrols at their own school? It kind of seems like a recipe for disaster to me. Sure it taught kids about being responsible citizens or members of the school, but at the same time, we saw bullying or threats of "I will report you". It was funny how Grade 1 kids are too young but Grade 2 kids are old enough to be patrols. How convenient! It would have made more sense to have older people doing it. For example, at my elementary school, there were parents who either volunteered (or got a light pay) for being lunch/recess supervisors. It gave teachers a break. It would be hard being, let's say, in Grade 8 and listening to a kid in Grade 2 telling you to "slow down".

Of course they stuck tiny little me (I was very small for my age until I was about 14) in charge of other 5th graders way bigger and more sophisticated than I am - so I was afraid to ever actually do anything when I patrolled. And it wasn't even my own class, which might have been a little less daunting.

We didn't have them. In my school the older grades were on one end of the building and the younger on the other, so I can kind of accept Karen's second graders doing it. They could watch out for the K and 1st graders, anyway.

My nephew is a safety right now; he's in the fifth grade. When I was a kid we had them at my school, but only sixth graders could do it.

That's weird... she magically appears and disappears in this book?
