Okay, the lemonade stand part was boring. But the storm was cool ;D.

Haha, I don't remember the storm part, and I only read it a few weeks ago! But thought it was funny that everyone copied Karen and quit the Krushers to start 'stands'. Oh, wait, now I vaguely remember the storm.

This is one of my favorite Little sister books. I always loved hearing about all the different stands the kids set up for the fair. The storm part was pretty cool, I loved hearing about all the different things they did to prepare for the storm, it sounded oddly exciting.

^ Remind me how they prepared? You wouldn't have thought I just read this one.

^They went to the store and stocked up on can goods, batteries etc. stuff they would need for the storm in case the power went out. Karen went on and talked about how she ran into all of her neighbors and friends in the store. They also went around and made sure the windows and everything were secure.
Another favorite part of this book is when Karen and Hannie pretended to be pioneer girls when the power went out.
Can you tell I love this book?

I thought it was so dumb that Hannie started selling friendship bracelets after Karen sold lemonade and Bobby sold cookies. More people will want food and drink; how many people are going to buy dinky little bracelets? (And wasn't it Nancy who made friendship bracelets in Karen's Carnival?)
I loved when they were at the store and Karen wants to buy popcorn...Charlie says that's not what they need to be shopping for, and Karen says that since it will be dark like at the movies, they can eat popcorn while watching the storm. The girl is persuasive.

^I also remember that part, and for some reason I always want to eat popcorn at that part. I think the LS books make me hungry in general.
This is one of my favorite all time favorite LS books and Summer books. I read it all the time.

Like everyone else wrote, I liked reading about the storm and what they did to prepare for the storm. I also liked reading about the different stands that people were opening while Kristy was having her team practice but I did feel bad for her when there was a chance that the World Series game might not have been held because the players would have rather sold things.

I also loved the storm in this book as well as the heat wave. (I guess I enjoyed all of the weather talk in this book. I am a weather nerd!)

The illustrations in this book are really cute. There's an adorable one of Andrew hanging onto Karen because the storm is making him a little nervous. The illustrator remembered to spell Krushers with a C on Karen's shirt even though it's not mentioned in the text, too. As far as the plot goes, I really liked this one because it seemed realistic as far as the Krushers were concerned. Kristy started up a softball team for kids who were too young or too crappy to play Little League, so it makes sense that not all of those kids are going to be particularly into softball, and since their parents aren't paying any money for it, they aren't going to force the kids to go to practice if they lose interest. Kids abandoning ship to sell lemonade or just go play with their friends makes a ton more sense than every kid continuing to come to every practice and game.
Also this book features another Krushers/Bashers "World Series" that is only one game long. I do not think Kristy is overly familiar with the meaning of the word "series". World Championship would be more accurate.

As I've mentioned before, I love the weather in this book. It reminds me of the unbelievably hot summers we get on the east coast sometimes (I'm in Canada). The humidity can be unbearable. When the a/c broke down at the Big House, I could only imagine how hot and stuffy it would get.
Did anyone else notice how rushed the last chapter was? It was like they forgot about the "World Series" and Karen was like, "Oh we played the game and we won! Horray! Look at me dancing around with Kristy! Everyone is happy now." I know a lot of LS books end quickly but this one was more noticeable.

I want to read this again soon...it's so hot and I just feel like reading about lemonade. Does anyone know if there is ever any mention of pink lemonade in the books?? That's my favorite kind. This is a weird post, I know

I saw a liter bottle of something called blue lemonade yesterday at 99 cent only. I don't remember what the flavor was but it looked (maybe) interesting. The color reminded of Blue Raspberry Icees that I used to love so much. As a kid I used to love lemonade flavored popsicles at day camp. Not much of a lemonade drinker now, but lol, thought this post relates anyway.
