Karen's cooking contest seemed like fun!! I really don't remember much about it though.

I think this is the book where Karen steals Nannies recipe and she gets caught.

I enjoyed this one, mostly because of Karen's class compiling recipes for a cookbook. That sounds like a lot of fun, something I would have liked to do in 2nd grade and even now

I liked reading about Karen's class trying to get recipes from celebrities. I also liked reading about the competition that Nannie was in.

I think the celebrities recipes was a good idea and then I wanted to try that myself

I agree that this was a pretty good idea for a book, especially since it's one of the later books -- and well -- they tend to stretch some ideas pretty thin later in the series.
I thought the cook book was lame but definitely something I could see a second grade class doing. In fact, the idea itself is pretty good because parents will buy it (kind of out of obligation).

This was good book. But, some parts were okay.
When I was in preschool. We mad a cookbook for kids. But, it was our parents who give us the recipes not famous celebrities. We still have the book.

I was the last to post in this thread back in June and deleted that message to combine. I did read this book yesterday in honor of it being Chocolate Day. What a literally sweet story that will always make me want chocolate. I’m not much of a cook but would have enjoyed being able to help out at the contest to sample the treats. I know Claudia would have as would two of my own family members with very sweet teeth. On the KIMCC recipe book, I understand each of the KIMCC wrote to 5 celebrities before the holiday break and had a deadline in which to hear back from them before compiling the recipes. Why couldn't Karen and whoever else simply have written to another person when they had not yet gotten any replies? I also thought Ms. Colman's comments that a family recipe could have a lot of history behind it sounded like an interesting idea for perhaps the sequel cookbook. I think that could have been a great twist on the KIMCC book Holiday Time. It could have also been a second LS Christmas super special of sorts, too. The actual cooking contest parts were fun to read about, they brought back memories of my Grandma’s chocolate chip cookies and just how much she loved all sorts of goodies. I prefer LS Nannie overall to BSC Nannie and Karen in LS books, her character is so much fuller developed. I was glad they bonded in this story. That said, I thought Nannie overreacted horribly to her seven -year-old granddaughter using her "secret" recipe for the class cookbook. ITA that Karen should have asked Nannie first if it was okay to use but I could understand her just wanting to have a true entry in the cookbook. I also thought it was sweet that Karen thought of Nannie as a "semi celebrity." Nannie, on the other hand, held an awfully big grudge toward Karen. It came across if Karen had not made Nannie the gift of the smile mold that Nannie might well have go on without caring that Karen was hurting. :/ My favorite part is still when Watson surprised Nannie with the "Team Nannie" baseball caps, that was sweet of him to do. I also loved how the entire big house family came together at the final competition to help out. The drawing on page 102 of Nannie (Karen's mural) is funny, too. The only thing I noticed in that illustration is that all 10 Big House Family members (if you count the picture of Nannie as Nannie) are present except David Michael. Maybe he and the “real” Nannie were in the kitchen concocting a surprise treat for the others.

Aw I've never read this book, it sounds great! Which celebrities were mentioned in it?

^I just checked and as far as I can quickly tell there are only two Stoneybrook Celebrities mentioned. Nancy gets a pot roast from Mark Fitzpatrick the weatherman on TV. (Pages 2-3 and 32) Chris Lamar got a bean dip recipe from Tough Tommy Blackcat (page 20) On page 4 Karen tells us that she had written to her favorite author, movie star, singer, the owner of Funland (I loved that she did that because Funland makes me think of Disneyland) and a gymnast. Karen does not share with us the names of these people.

How jealous would Mary Anne have been if Karen or one of her classmates ended up getting a recipe for pot roast or something from Cam Geary? That would have been funny to read about.

Haha. Now that you mention it, I'm surprised Mary Anne is the only one we know to have a crush on him, considering he looked like Logan, who was so sought after!

Mary Anne would have broke into Stoneybrook Academy for a piece of Cam Geary
