I had read Karen's Candy last night about selling candy so I thought today would makes sense to read about her helping to make candy and other treats. I felt horrible for Karen, in tears, and all Nannie can do is shun her away. I didn't realize that the entire big house family, including Watson :/, was said to have understood why Nannie was so very upset and didn't want Karen's help any longer. Did like how Watson brightened Karen's day at school by surprising her at the library to buy a cookbook and I still love the Team Nannie baseball caps and how everyone (thanks to Karen bringing Nannie the smile mold and that finally getting Nannie to accept her apology) helped Nannie win the final contest. I still smile every time I read this because I just know my Grandma along with another family member would have absolutely loved being judges in the contest and taste-testing all the entries. Come to think of it, I would too. Unlike Charlie, for me the sweeter the better when it comes to chocolate and I imagine those cookies he sampled were great, makes me think of the ancient Mystic Mint Cookies in the green boxes I used to love. Good thoughts and memories.
Sub-plot. Does anyone else think it was strange (I know it was for story purposes) that every single other KIMCC got all 4 or 5 of their celebrity recipes while Karen got none? I still don't understand why Ms. Colman, especially after suggesting the kids ask family members so that the class would have as many recipes as possible, didn't also invite the kids who had not heard back to try writing to someone else. I did think Tasty Treats sounded like a fun project and would have enjoyed reading about a follow up cookbook.
