I loved this one! I like that for once the girls did something really bad and they didn't get caught. I enjoyed reading about the NY trip. I did feel bad for Sunny and realize she must have been going through some tough times and it was pretty realistic that MA was jealous of her and Dawn's friendship. It was interesting at least for me that MA realizes Dawn has an everyday BFF while she was just sort of a BFF long lost. I wish it had made MA appreciate Kristy a little more.

I've done a lot of google looking at barn houses because of BSC. They look stunning, but I don't think I would ever want to live in one. The whole floor being open like Mary Anne said is really unappealing to me. The huge double doors opening to the kitchen kinda grossed me out too. Who wants nature's little creatures flying in and out at their own will? I know they pretty much couldn't not give Dawn and Jeff rooms, but that just seemed like wasted space. Jeff especially should have gotten, like, the family computer room with a sofa bed in it. I loved the NYC trip too! I would have loved to sneak away anywhere at that age and not get caught. I'm glad Mary Anne didn't break down from guilty conscience or anything, and I'm really glad they didn't have Sunny run off/get lost in her fight with Dawn. Sunny obviously never watched the BSC movie or she would know she couldn't get into a NYC club anyway.

I like barn houses! I remember Randy Zak lived in one in Girl Talk, and there are a few in the area where my mom lives. I'd love to live in one; it's be like a loft apartment, but in the country.

For some reason, I think of the amish when I think of barn houses. There's no real reason at all but I can't get past seeing MA and Dawn in amish clothes feeding the farm animals!

I've done a lot of google looking at barn houses because of BSC. Me too! In fact, I have had this weird slight obsession of looking at BSC-related towns or houses. This is slightly embarrassing but I even Google Map Princeton, NJ and look around the town as if it was Stoneybrook, or imagining it as so. I'd love to see any houses that make you think of the BSC. Also, greer, if you see this, I want to start up another thread about Princeton, since I know you've visited.

My best friend lives in Princeton. I mentioned it to her when I visited, but she has only read like, one BSC book in her life.

That's not exactly what I meant, Virgo. I don't go searching for BSC type buildings. Barn houses are just something that I haven't seen in person, so when the books started mentioning them I looked them up. They are beautiful and interesting but I don't think they look very family friendly.

I loved Sunny in this (big surprise, I know). I thought it was quite well written, maybe even up to the standard of the earlier books. And it was just fun and not very unrealistic at all. In fact, I have to admit I had tears in my eyes during the scene where MA comforts Sunny. Miles did a great job writing her.

I feel like Sunny in this book didn't really make sense with the Sunny from CD. In CD, Sunny, got really sulky and depressed (as opposed to her earlier excited and fun-loving personality), but in this book it was like she was all coked up.
That aside, I did enjoy this book. Since so many of the BSC books feature one of the girls fighting with her supposed "best friend", I really appreciated that Dawn and Mary Anne just got along in this book, with no drama between them at all. I really liked reading about them together.

I like this one, although I think its hysterical how MA's view of Dawn is of this saintly person who hasn't had chance to grieve Mrs W. because she's been so devoted to Sunny's feelings; when in California Diaries, she's making fun of how Sunny's dad is 'so concerned about your mom' that he 'doesn't care about you' literally the same week Mrs. W comes home to die. If Mary Anne saw Dawn in California, I think her opinion of her would change for the worse pretty swiftly.

Unfortunately, Mary Anne seemed pretty out of character in this book, pretty jealous and petty without, as in books 3 (kind of) and 8, having good reasons to be. And her bonding with Sunny at the end was underwhelming, stiffly talking at her rather than really talking with her.

Since so many of the BSC books feature one of the girls fighting with her supposed "best friend", I really appreciated that Dawn and Mary Anne just got along in this book, with no drama between them at all. I really liked reading about them together. Sorry to reply to such an old comment, but I think it's consistent with the CDs. Sunny's first 2 CDs were before her mother's death and her last one dealt with her death, and she was acting out in the first 2. She's always described as wild (mostly by the other CD narrators), and I think she's broody and depressed in her own books because we're inside her head. In this one, she's staying ultra busy (and crazy and fun-loving like her earlier descriptions) as a coping mechanism. Definitely makes sense imo. This book was basically the reason I decided to read FF. I liked Sunny's diaries the most (Amalia being a close second) and wanted to see more of her character. The barn house sounds pretty great, actually, although I'm having trouble picturing the barn door opening up the kitchen and that not being totally weird. I can see it being cool in theory, but kind of a headache when put to action. But I like the open concept idea, and after Googling barn houses to get a better picture (I really like things like this), I dig it. Jeff should have annoyed me, but for some reason, he didn't. I guess I found it realistic gor a 10yo boy. I did feel for him when he broke down at the Pike baby-sitting job, and it was cool for the triplets to help him out. Also, according to this book, he's also friends with Nicky? Was that always a thing? Also, I have trouble remembering his age for some reason (can never remember if he's 9 or 10), so I Googled his name, and apparently there's a director named Jeff Schafer! Kind of cool. Admittedly, Sunny was annoying at times, just in regards to the find a boyfriend for Mary Anne stuff. I also wouldn't be able to keep up with her lol. I really liked her talk with Mary Anne after breaking down, though, and their observations felt so real. Like Sunny saying she has trouble remembering what her mom looked like sometimes... I've been there in regards to my brother. I sort of wanted more Abby, just because the two have similar energy (although Sunny is actually be MORE hyper), but I get why she only appeared once. I feel bad that Sunny doesn't even get to see her dad much. She must be really lonely. I definitely got the feel from the CDs that the two aren't exactly close either. Good food descriptions in this one. Veggie lasagna, garlic bread, yum! The New York trip was awesome! I have to say it's weird that Mary Anne's love of the city wasn't brought up, though. It's obvious that she has a good time there, but yeah. Not saying I want Tour Guide Mary Anne to return though! Dawn's fear of the city actually was hinted at, though. It's just very wild, for the BSC at least, that they went to NYC without anyone (except Stacey) knowing. I fully expected them to get caught and get in trouble. I'm sort of glad they didn't... it feels so un-BSC. They spot cross dressers in NYC, pretty cool. This book sort of has a more mature feel than the other FFs and seems a little better written. Probably the best written one. I get why Dawn blew up at Sunny, and in a weird way, I think it helped her. I get why she went back to California too. There isn't anything really wrong with this one. It gets a 7.5

The spontaneous New York trip was awesome, it's definitely a high light of this book. The fact that they never got caught is so un-BSC like that I lowkey love it. oldmeanie maybe once Byron accepted Nicky Jeff became friends with him too.
