This was a great book! One of my favorite BSC FF book. I love the books where the BSC are part of a protest. I sympathized for Ted losing his job because of parents being sticklers about his suggested reading list for the students. I just wish there were much more Cary and Kristy books

I don't really see the appeal of Cary. I wish they had given his story lines to Alan instead.
This was the third big protest book I've read (School Spirit War, First Thanksgiving), so it seemed a bit redundant. What would be interesting was if some of the BSC parents were on opposite sides rather than having all of them be so freaking liberal all the time. (I say that as a rather liberal person myself.) Would any of your parents have been on the pro-book ban side?
I thought it was supposed to be really hard to fire teachers. It wasn't even a required reading assignment that he gave out. I smell a lawsuit.

^I haven't read anything with Cary and Mary Anne yet. That sentence you wrote is my exact problem with him. He had this vibe like he was this bad boy just waiting to be tamed. Vomit. Why was this book called Kristy Power? She didn't do anything. She didn't campaign to get Ted's job back. She wasn't even the only student to speak at his meeting, even though we didn't get to see what the other kids said/did. I think she actually spent as much time talking about her boring sounding Christmas party as she did talking about Ted's job. This should go in the dumbest titles thread...

This book was terrible, but I guess I am the only one who thought so! I didn't like Kristy in it and I don't like Cary anyway. I thought the censorship plot was a snooze as it has been used before. It makes me sad that this was one of the three Kristy books in the series. I don't know what I would have liked better, but this was not good.

Agreed - absolutely love Cary with MA...in the mysteries and FF, besides this book, I can really see them getting along and making a great couple. He can toughen her up a little and she can bring out his soft side.

I loved the Kristy-Cary relationship in this. Does anyone know offhand which other books he shows up in?
It probably helps that I hadn't read another censorship book before this one.

^Some off the top of my head - Stacey and the Haunted Masquerade (introduced), Kristy and the Middle School Vandal, Mary Anne and the Silent Witness.

Baby-sitters' Fright Night. Stacey and the Stolen Hearts, I think briefly.

I thought this one felt more like a regular BSC book than a FF book, since the focus was on Cary and Kristy bickering, and on a book banning issue, rather than focusing on angsty fighting friends and boy troubles. I spent the whole book thinking that Cary had set up Kristy - that he had planted the notebook entry, somehow arranged it that she would stumble upon it and think he was a criminal, all so he could prank her. So I was surprised that it turned out to be an entry he genuinely hadn't wanted her to see. The book banning plot kinda annoyed me; it just seemed like a rehash of the book banning plot in MA and the Library Mystery. It bothers me that it's come up multiple times in the series, since I think that's unrealistic. In my experience at a public school in the USA, I don't remember ever hearing parents raise issues with reading lists. Anyone else? sparklymouse, I completely agree that it would have been more interesting to have some of the BSC parents have opposing views, rather than having all the parents reflect Ann's views. (Not just in this book; in the rest of the series too.) It also annoys me when the First Amendment is misused (which is frequently). The Freedom of Speech part is mostly to allow you to be able to freely criticize the government without fear of the government punishing/arresting you; it doesn't really have much to do with what was going on in this book.

I must be one of the few who thought this book was extremely boring. The Stacey/Claudia feud is getting old and I don't know who Cary is to even care. I haven't gotten far into my BSC rereads to remember Cary. Does he turn up in the mysteries because I've only read up to mystery no 10.
I'm reading this series in order and some books are better than others. I like Mary Anne in these books and Stacey I HATE because she chose a boy over her friends-once again. *rolls eyes* and I miss Mallory and Dawn. And even Jessi.
