It may have been weird if there were two Ryan DeWitts in Stoneybrook but one was there and the other was in California. I don't think that's strange.

I don't think the Ryan DeWitt thing is that weird. Ryan is an extremely common first name, and it's not as if DeWitt is a really rare last name, even if it's not like "Smith" or something. I don't think the writers realized at first that they had given two characters the same name, but I don't think it's any big deal.
The Sabrina Bouvier thing is really weird, though.
Has anybody read any books by Martyn Godfrey? One really weird thing is that there's a character named Jeeny Carter in the Ms. Teeny-Wonderful series (hmm, speaking of beauty contests) and also in his novel Why Just Me? and they appear to have the exact same personality, but I don't think they're supposed to be the same person. Then again, maybe they are and I just never read closely enough -- maybe Jeeny switched schools at some point?

First you've heard of Thirteen Never Changes, then of Martin Godfrey! I guess that's part of us being Canadian though. I noticed that too. Maybe Martin Godfrey knew somebody like that named Jeeny Carter and used her name twice . I actually met him a few times but that was before I read Why Just Me so I didn't think to ask him. Too bad.

I don't mind the Ryan DeWitt thing at all because they acknowledge there are two of them. I think it's in Here Comes the Bridesmaids, Kristy is talking about CA Ryan and is like "A different one!" or some such thing. Also, I think it's kinda easy to see how this could've happened. Ryan is a super common name (and you know they aren't creative with male names in BSC books!) so CA Ryan was "born" so to speak in CA Girls, then later on when they wrote the DeWitts in, without even thinking they just named the kid Ryan. Of course this is speculation, but I can see how it'd happen.
The Sabrina thing is weird. Maybe it's meant as an inside joke to acknowledge how long the series has been around without the girls aging. Maybe they're just checking to see if any of the same fans were still reading and would catch it. The ghost writers could have a better sense of humor than we're creditting them for! hee.

^ That's really along the lines of what I thought as well. A nd I think it's pretty funny that both young Sabrina and older Sabrina have an obsession with beauty and makeup and stuff.

Oh, okay. I didn't realise it was ever acknowledged. I don't think the same name was intentional, but it's easy to see how the mistake could be made.
You know, that's probably the only explanation that makes sense! It's near impossible to accept that two entirely different writers came up with a name as uncommon as Sabrina Bouvier or simply used the name again and expected no one to notice. I mean, why not just change it?
So I think you're probably right - those crazy ghostwriters! ;D

Was it "Claudia and the Middle School Mystery"? I think she was one of Shawna Riverson's friends. I could be wrong. I'm SURE she was in "Mary Anne's Makeover" though. She was definitely in Mary Anne's Makeover. I think that's the first time she appeared as a middle-schooler.

Yeah, that's my problem with it. If the name was Ryan Williams or Ryan Brown, it would be totally acceptable. Heh. I actually know someone named Ryan Brown. He's a friend of my brother's. Many of my brother's friends seem to be named either Ryan or Matthew.

^ I didn't either until I read this thread. Now I notice it every time, though ;D What books was the middle school version in other than Makeover?

Maybe the Sabrina's are sisters. And their parents are like George Foreman and named all their kids the same thing.
