I'm a little biased on the Boxcar Children front as I never enjoyed the series as a kid (dude, they only lived in the boxcar, for like, ONE BOOK before being rescused by a rich grandpa, that always bothered me when I was a kid, lol) but still... I can't believe they don't think they'd be able to sell BSC to a new generation.
I have to say though, the BSC graphics are VERY well done by comic book standards. Most comics for kids (Archie, Sonic the Hedgehog, the dregs of manga, etc) are sooooooooo awful. But Graphix (Scholastic's new imprint for comice) is producing some AMAZING stuff. The acquisition of Jeff SMith's "Bone" series (*sigh* I'm old enough to have bought the original single issues when they were independently published...) Amy Freidman's "Breaking Up" is cute for girl comics, Captain Underpants is AWESOME for ANY AGE, and some of their original work is pretty cool too. I remember talking to one of the people from there at comic-con last year and they seem REALLY dedicated to bringing quality comics to kids.
OMG, my CHILDHOOD FANTASY came to life at Comic-Con last year. After the awesome signing and brief chat I had with Jeff Smith (I was always a big Bone fan as a kid, so part one of this childhood fantasy come to life happened- well, actually part 2 since part 1 I guess was getting Stan Lee's autograph in the morning) I ACTUALLY MET AND GOT THE FIRST BSC COMIC BOOK SIGNED BY ANN M MARTIN!!!!!
I only had a minute and probably made her feel super old (it must be jarring to be told by 25 year old's they loved you when 'they were kids') but she was nothing but nice to me about it and EVEN PERSONALIZED it for me. And the funny part of it was- there was probably more girls in their mid to late 20's in line to get her autograph than there was kids! And I struck up a convo with the girl ahead of me and we had this little chat over how much we loved the BSC as kids- and we both were laughing over the fact that our boyfriends totally abandoned us for the Star Wars event because they didn't want to be seen at the Babysitters Club graphic novel signing, lol. That was a really good day, haha.

I, too, was surprised (pleasantly) that the Boxcar Children books are still around. I even got one from the Goodwill the other day, that was published only a few years ago. The Mystery at Skeleton Point. Ooooo.

I kinda still wish that someone at scholastic would somehow decide to greenlight more BSC Graphix. I really loved them... I had no idea they existed until I happened to see one at B&N one day. They're what got me back into BSC!

^ I didn't expect that I was going to like them as much as I did. I liked them so much I bought the remaining 3 I didn't have at they're regular price: $11.99 each!

^I saw KGI for $1 the other day. I flipped through it and thought about it and just didn't want it, even for a buck. These just aren't my thing, I guess.

Last weekend, I was completely shocked when I walked into my bookstore here (in Holland) and found BSC graphic novel #1. I had NO idea anyone would ever consider translating them since interest in BSC has generally been absent here since the late-90s. I told my boyfriend "omg I used to read these books!" but he never heard of it, either . Well, apparently, a magazine for girls aged 8-14 here has been running parts of the comic in their magazine each week and they've now released the entire book I read 2-3 pages before deciding I had to buy it ^^ I'm not done reading it though but I like the comics a lot, actually, it's just so cute. I don't know, if anyone is making the connection with the old BSC books, since these young girls have never heard of them, and in the old version, the names and locations were translated - Stacey from NY was Petra from Amsterdam - in this one, she's just Stacey from NY which makes the whole thing rather more believable. Does mean that MA is no longer "Inge" like me just Mary Anne. ANYWAY I came here to see how much more there was in store, and I'm sad to hear only 4 graphic novels were created hopefully, they'll translate them all though since I really enjoy them. I guess I could just buy the English ones online but it seems they are in black and white, while the Dutch ones are in color ^^ Long story short, I'll join the group of "hoping we'll get more someday"

^ That must have been really exciting to see it, especially since it was translated in a different language (and I'm sure you didn't think you'd ever see a new BSC book around!) I laughed when your boyfriend had no clue about the BSC. Of course. To be honest, to this day I sometimes ask people if they read or remember the BSC. I'm sure most people think I'm looney, but whatever! I love the series (as we all do).

I loved the graphic novels and just recently got the last one I still needed (MA Saves the Day). I really wish they had done more of these, as I would love to have seen Mallory get her own book done in graphic form!

Anyway on topic: yes, I was super excited ^^ totally caught by surprise I'm still super happy with it, re-reading it right now ^^ I love the little outfit changes and everything, brings the BSC back to life for me (my books are hidden somewhere in my moms attic because I move too often )
