Okay, call me crazy, but i've read a couple Dawn books in the last week or so, and it seems like on EVERY. SINGLE. PAGE. there is so much italics... please tell me someone else notices this, and its not just me being crazy! Is it some kind of weird California style to talk like that?

I think it just depends on the writer. I remember reading 'Stacey and the Empty House' and being driven insane by the italics. Literally, at least one on every page. After a while I kind of just stopped reading carefully and skim-read.

Thirteen-year-old girls do kind of talk with a lot of italics. There's something ringing a bell in one of the Anne books about a girl in that age writing- or seeming to talk- with a lot, but I can't quite place it. I've just started an Anne re-read but only read Anne of Green Gables so it's not going to jump at me.

I'm sure Wenonah didn't mean ALL 13 year old girls. I doubt they know every 13 year old girl in the world. But it's true. MOST KIND OF do. No need to take offence.

Hazel in Anne of Windy Poplars was pretty fond of italics-maybe that's the one you're thinking of?

Thank you! I thought it might have been in Windy Poplars.

Oh. My brain didn't hang onto it at all. I thought there was something in one of the Emily books about a love of italics. Then again, maybe it was in both.

I haven't read the Emily books, so I knew it couldn't be in those. Unless it's both, of course.
