Eco-supporter or eco-nut? California casual or what? An individual or not as much? In with reality or out of touch (sometimes)?
p.s. throwing a little Vanessa Pike at y'all.
All in all, to me she seems to get bent out of shape pretty easily sometimes.

She doesn't seem like that much of a feminist to me. What has she done that makes her a feminist?
Not quite sure about the whole individual thing... The only example of that I can see is that she passes down junk food and is a vegetarian, which I suppose in the BSC era is quite radical.
The thing that annoyed me about Dawn is her whole "I only eat HEALTHY things and that includes no meat". Because, you know, meat can be healthy. And then she goes and chooses chicken on the plane ride to California (In the California SS).

Oh, makes more sense now! I think she was horrible in "Dawn Saves The Planet", but generally she isn't as nutty as that.

I think Dawn's definition of an individual is someone who can't make any decisions and so she always lands in between. She's neither 'super sophisticated' like Claudia and Stacey or 'kind of immature' like Kristy and Mary Anne. Claud/Stacey love boys, Kristy/MA hate them, Dawn hasn't decided. Her individuality is more like the opposite.

She doesn't seem like that much of a feminist to me. What has she done that makes her a feminist? She had a big sook about the Peter Pan play and made some disdainful remark about how her mother took Richard's surname (what, did she expect Sharon to keep her ex's name? Dumbass) - but you're right, her feminism wasn't a HUGE aspect of her personality. She never struck me as laid back and she became more radical in her hippy-ness as the series progressed. She's definitely a future attachment parent, breastfeeding her kids until they're four yrs old, co-sleeping, cloth nappies etc.

When she arrived in Stoneybrook she was supposed to be kinda weird looking but very cool and friendly. Then suddenly she was gorgeous and rather bitchy. She wore baggy clothes which is the BSC code for laidback. I don't think she was any more of an individual than Claudia (who dressed like it was Halloween every day), Jessi (who was the only black ballerina in Stoneybrook), or Stacey (the big city girl with the mysterious illness).

Yeah, I have agree with something I heard from somewhere - the later books killed her.
But I liked her as a kid. I don't know why.

You know what I find weird? Dawn's the alternate officer, so most of the time she doesn't do anything at meetings. But everytime she does have to take over someone's duties for awhile, she's always relieved when it's over. She was sick of it after filling in for Claudia for like a week. But the VP doesn't actually do anything. What, did she pass around snacks? Come on. Neither Mary Anne or Stacey, who have actual duties, ever complain. Was Dawn so "laid back" that she didn't even want to lift a finger?

^ that never made sense to me either. Why did the VP need replacing?
If Kristy had to miss a meeting, Dawn took her place as president IIRC. Shouldn't that be the VPs job? That always bugged me.

Kristy's away for a week, and Abby wants to be the President, but Kristy said Claudia should be since Claud's the VP, and that's how it happens in the White House. And Abby argues that the White House doesn't have an extremely bored alternate officer. What does Kristy actually do at meetings, anyway? "I call this meeting to order!" "Meeting adjourned". Isn't that all Dawn would've had to do as the replacement?

I adore Dawn! I agree that she never quite fits the descriptions the other sitters bestow upon her, but she's so bitchy, it's hilarious. And I like how even "individual Dawn" became a massive tool when the older boy liked her and bought her hair combs and crap I just hate how she never looks right on the covers! They describe her as having this loooooong "white blonde" hair and on the covers she's got dingy dishwater blonde hair just past her shoulders!

I have always loved Dawn. Probably because I've always been part crazy-hippie myself. I hated how she totally tried to make herself over for Louis Bruno, though. *tsk tsk* I guess it was typical teenage girl behavior, but you would've expected more from such an "individual"! I have NEVER understood the term "California casual" though. And they never really go into a description of Dawn's clothing beyond that term.
