I think Stacey was attracted to Sam simply because he was older and in high school. If they actually dated into her freshman year, I'm pretty sure Stacey would dump him very quickly for a cooler guy (a senior, I'm sure).

^Looking back on it, I get the idea that Sam was only cool when taken out of the context of everyone else at his school. I mean, a fifteen-year-old math club member who makes prank calls and dates multiple eighth graders?

Yeah, Stacey should have gone for Charlie. He could drive. I would think that would be a MUST for sophisticated Stacey.
Plus, he seemed like a jock--playing varsity football and baseball. That seemed more Stacey's type.
But, I loved the pairing of Sam and Stacey.

I have a complete inability to picture Sam with dark curly hair. I know he's been described that way a billion times, but I keep seeing him as blond. I also can't picture David Michael as having dark curls like he's supposed to -- in my mind, he has straight, medium-brown hair. My brain just completely rejects the book descriptions of them, and I don't know why. Me too! All of what you said, I picture them the same. For some reason I picture Charlie and Sam to be very similar looking with blondish brown hair and DM to have strait medium brown hair.

Can we try to put together a timeline of Stacey and Sam's relationship? I get so confused, he seems to just randomly pop up every 20 books or so.
I guess they initially met in Kristy's Great Idea and were attracted to each other but nothing ever came of it, right? Then the next instance I can remember is in Shadow Lake when Sam is being a 7 year old and teasing Stacey the whole time, but somehow she falls in luv with him and they dance the night away in the lodge. Gag. In Starring the BSC she is annoyed with him (finally!) and they decide to take a break. In Stacey's Big Crush (is that after Starring the BSC?) they have some mini-drama involving the school dance & Wes. Then in Stacey & the Mystery Money they decide to date casually but not be too serious.
Am I missing anything? Is that about how the events took place? I don't know, it's just so weird how there's no mention of Sam for so long, then he randomly shows up. What happens to them after Stacey & the Mystery Money?
Also -- they are both always SO jealous whenever the other is dating somebody else, even though they insist that they not be tied down to one another. What's the point then? Just be exclusive if you don't want each other dating other people. (I know some amount of jealousy/weirdness is normal, but....meh.)

He offers to walk her home from school in Stacey's Choice and she's sad that she has to turn him down because she has a ride.
In Babysitters Beware, she thinks he wants to start up their romance again because they're at Shadow Lake, the place where True Luv blossomed in the first place. But he doesn't. Yet he does like to flirt with her, because he says it keeps him "in practice" for his next girlfriend. They are so confusing.

^It keeps him in practice for his next girlfriend? Wow... how charming. "I don't like you, but you're good practice for my next girl." What girl doesn't want to hear that? Does he actually say it to her? Never read that book.

Yeah, I think so. Don't have the book on hand to check though.

Yikes, if I was Stacey I think I'd get rid of any thoughts of getting back together with him after hearing that!

I'd tell him to get lost after that comment.

Sam annoying Stacey because he liked her in Shadow Lake just reminded me of the way Alan annoyed Kristy. Never thought of this before. I would have told him to go away if I was Stacey but I know a lot of boys that age tease girls they like. Also would have told him to get lost for the "practice girlfriend" comment.

I hated how Sam was so pesky in Shadow Lake. It's understandable behavior for a child, but a 15 year old? It was too over the top for me. Also I hate in Shadow Lake how Stace hates him for the whole book, then suddenly at the end is falling in luv. Ridiculous.

^ I never got why she suddenly decided she liked him, either. Agree that he should have been more mature as a 15 year old and that he was so annoying. I would have killed him. But I've seen lots of 15 year old guys act like this. Maybe they're less mature in CT and MI or maybe I've just had some bad experiences ;D

I would have liked more consistancy with this 'relationship' too. I don't mind them together, but come to think of it, Sam was pretty immature.
