One thing that annoyed me a little about her in "Welcome Back Stacey" when she's making a list of pros and cons between Stoneybrook and New York, she says she likes SMS so much better than her other school because she's "One of the coolest kids in the whole school" there, whereas she sees herself as a very small fish in a big pond at her New York private school in the coolness stakes.
I think she worried a lot about how others perceived her, which is common at that age but not really a great message for kids reading it.

It seemed like she had more in common with the BSC do-gooders than she cared to admit. She and Mary Anne do seem to bond pretty well. (And her favorite movie of all time is Mary Poppins, hehe.) I think that was one big thing about her character that the writers liked to highlight. She thought of herself as a classy, sophisticated, NYC girl, who was so much more sophisticated than the BSC (even Claudia) but at the end of the day, she had more in common in the BSC than she'd want to admit. When she hung out with the "bad" crowd, she was like a little girl compared to them (thinking they weren't stealing from Bellair's, wondering why they would sneak grape juice into the U4Me concert, etc). It was kind of like Sandy hanging out with the Pink Ladies in Grease.

i don't usually like stacey, but i REALLY disliked her in stacey's lie. it was so irritating to watch her put claudia through all of that. even after claudia expressed her frustration, stacey still put hanging out with robert first. ditching your friends for a boy at 13? plus, i can't think of any guy (especially at the age of 13, where boys are so eager to prove their manliness) who would be okay with his super-clingy girlfriend stopping his job EVERY SINGLE TIME he got a second to breathe. wouldn't that just be embarrassing? i think the real issue though is that stacey (and the writers too) have mistaken wearing trendy clothes for being mature. for all her talk of being the most sophisticated, she really is the least mature. her obsession with being better than everyone else is the reason that i consider her NOT better than them.

lol @ the sandy comparison, that is pretty funny to imagine!
I think Stacey reminded me of people I knew that were trying to act older at 13 and 14 so I used to see it as normal behaviour in my early teens, but now I think it was too much, though overall, I felt bad for her too. Maybe if her dad didn't tell her she's still young and to not be serious or something along those lines, she wouldn't have felt the need to act the way she did.

I think I am alone here but being 13 as well, I understand the urge to fit in. I agree that sometimes she WAS mean but a lot of the time(Stacey vs the BSC is the best example) her friends acted immature as well. Seriously, do my friends and I ever put straws up our noses? No! We stopped that at five. I cannot blame Stracey for wanting to be mature but maybe she could have handled it better?

I think the BSC's behaviour was really exagerrated in Stacey Vs. the BSC, but Stacey seemed to be outgrowing that too, Mallory being on top of the list. But she was also tired of having no life other than babysitting and felt overwhelmed, though I know she cared for Charlotte

I reread Stacey's Mistake last night and laughed! She was so embarassed by the wheels on Claudia's suitcase, saying only a grandmother would have that! LMAO fast forward her to two decades later and everyone has suitcases with wheels on them that can be dragged....go claudia!

LOL I remember reading that for the first time and keeping in mind that okay, wheels on suitcases = lame. Years go by...the wheels are very convenient. No embarrassment here ;D

Not at all, I carried my bags when I travelled and killed my back. It's been all about the wheels for me since then.

Stacey definitely has her bratty moments. She wants to look cool, even if she has to look like a snob at the same time (which she doesn't necessarily want).
I wanted to slap her during Boy Crazy Stacey. She's so single-minded. Whatever she wants at that moment is all she wants.

^ i never thought of it that way, but that's a good way to put it. it explains how easily she forgets her friends' feelings.

It is a good way to put it. I like Stacey though. I think she can be annoying, but I think she's fun.

I find her to be rarely snobby and generally endearing, especially in #8 (the whole mood of the book was very feel-good even if Mary Anne got annoyed). The only times she was too self-absorbed were #s 76 and 34.

Only 3 I can think of right now: 1. Having a hissy fit when SHE was the one who lied in Kristy's Great Idea 2. Filet mignon 3. Getting on Kristy's case for the carbo-loading when SHE would be eating junk food if she could. 4. Being bossy with Claudia in Claudia's Friend
In terms of Stacey vs. The BSC I am with the minority in agreeing with her being embarrassed and able to understand why she would be.

I think the publishers of the BSC books wanted each BSC member to be different. They had to all have different looks, personalities and come from as many different cultures as possible so that every young female who read the books could have at least one BSC member they could identify with. With it being a series about girls, there had to be at least one slightly b****y member, which is Stacey. I found her to be especially rude to and about Mary-Anne in Boy-Crazy Stacey. E.g. when she made comments like Mary-Anne's bikini wasn't as skimpy as hers etc.
Because the BSC is meant to be a series which promotes friendliness amongst girls, I find that Stacey's comments are nasty, but something 'nice' is quickly said before or after the bitchy comments to try and soften her. E.g. in Boy Crazy Stacey she said something rude like the bedroom the Pikes had given her 'was not to her taste' but then she quickly and more politely added that it was 'still pretty though'.
In Stacey's Ex-Best Friend it showed Stacey as telling off and standing up to Laine to try and show the readers that even mean girls get bullied themselves and just because she thinks she's pretty, she certainly doesn't get what she wants all the time. In Boy Crazy Stacey, not every boy she likes likes her, (Scott) and she even gets dumped by a boyfriend (Toby).
