What ballets has Jessi performed in during the books? I know she was in Copella in one and Swan Lake in another but can’t remember what role. Also, she was in the Nutcracker in Snowbound but said it wasn’t the first time. Was the first time mentioned in another book?

She was Clara in the Nutcracker at her old school in N.J.

Clara - The Nutcracker Swanilda - Coppelia Swan Maiden - Swan Lake Princess Aurora - Sleeping Beauty
I think she was in The Nutcracker again, but it wasn't shown in the series... she had wanted to play the Sugar Plum Fairy from what I remember.

In Snowbound, she was The Mouse King. Usually thats a boy part, so I don' t know why Jessi was playing it. Unless of course they wanted to cover up the black ballerina with a giant mouse head. It's not like they've had a shortage of boy dancers before.

^ Thanks. I was also wondering why Jessi was the Mouse King in Snowbound since it's a boy part. Maybe they didn't have enough guy dancers at that particular time or maybe none of the ones who tried out were good enough and that was a part that a girl could fill.

At GRB the mice are almost always all girls (Party boys too). I think this year the rat king might actually be a woman too, but I could be wrong.

^ I've never actually seen the Nutcracker (but always have wanted to ;D Maybe I'll have to go to GRB to some performance of something - assuming that stands for Grand Rapids Ballet) but it would make sense to me that a girl would play the mouse king and the parts where it really could be either a boy or girl.

Oh, no, I just checked the program. The Mouse King is played by a boy, and so are all the party boys, at least this year. And I know in the past it has been played by boys, one year I knew the guy. Of course, I haven't been in a while due to living in a different city, so I can't say for ure that it's "always" played bya boy or girl. I guess it doesn't matter. Mother Ginger was played by a guy with a go-tee in my viewing this year.
I don't think the GRB is doing so well financially, every year the Nutcracker seems to get worse. I remember it being this big magical thing when I was little, and now it's more like... a dance recital. Of course, my Grandmother used to take me Chicago to see it too, which was always WAY bigger and more special. But I remember GRs being much ... more engaging. *shrug* Or maybe it's because I'm bigger? Kids still seem to like it. :-)

^ I don't know if I am or not. Seems like it might be too long for me to sit through ;D but I've always wanted to see the Nutcracker, at least. Maybe next year.... (or I'll just read a Jessi dance book. ;D)

@ aln The Nutcracker is a good "starting" ballet. It's pretty short.
I'm going to see Swan Lake next month in kalamazoo. I hope it's better then the nutcracker. It should be, as I haven't seen it eight thousand times.

The Nutcracker sounds like my thing with being short. For me, short is usually good with stuff like that. ;D
