That Pebbles barrette made another appearance in Claudia Kishi, Middle School Dropout. The 7th grade girls thought it was so cool that they all wanted to get one.

I remember that! They all had their hair in high ponytails like Claud's, like, the day after her first day back in 7th grade. Soo subtle.
Some of the fashions in that book suprised me for being so up to date for its time...the Mary Jane shoes, the baby Ts, the short plaid skirts.

My Grandma used to fix my little cousin's hair like this when she was about 2. I didn't even like it on a toddler. Can't imagine it on a jr. high girl. By the way, what is with Claud always wearing unmatching earrings???

Ugh I hate when Claudia wears unmatching earrings. I think Stacey does it sometimes, too. Like they'll wear an earring of a tennis racket and one of a tennis ball. So lame. My mom actually bought me some like that when I was little, but they were a hockey puck and a hockey stick. I never even liked hockey! And even as a child I thought those earrings were lame.

wasn't she always wearing feather earrings? I thought that was bizarre. And then I think there's a book when Mallory wants feather earrings too.I always pictured these long bird feathers coming out of their ears.
And does anyone else think its weird that her parents ban Nancy Drew and junk food, but allow her to dress like this?

She wore feathers a lot. I never liked the way they sounded, I pictured them coming down to their shoulders or something. I remember Maria Kilbourne even giving her mother a pair of dyed green feather earrings for Mother's Day.

ITA! When I first reread this book, I was shocked at Claudia's non-hideous outfits. Doesn't she actually wear, like, a button-down shirt with a cardigan and skirt at one point?
ETA: I just realized, that sounds like it could be one of Janine's horrible outfits ;D

Yes! I remember, on her first day of seventh she wore jeans and something like a "rust-colored" cardigan. I thought it sounded like a good look. Plus her outfit on the cover is nice and normal, a blue button down with a brown shirt.

I was in Taco Bell yesterday and swear I saw Claudia! This high school age girl came in with her friend and her mom. She was wearing these crazy print leggings under some really short knit shorts that totally didn't match and some strange looking man's button down shirt. She was also wearing some big, Claudia-like dangling earrings and some big bow thing in her hair. I tried not to stare and laugh. All I could think was that the outfit would have even been outrageous for Claudia - or maybe just very dibble Of course, it was like 50 mph wind and about 10 degrees and the girl's mother was wearing shorts - because it was March! I was shivering in a winter coat, three sweatshirts, two pairs of pants and huge boots.

^ A BSC sighting! I actually knew a girl in 5th grade who dressed much like Claudia and (sort of ) Stacey did. I even called her Stacey in my head.

I had a BSC sighting yesterday while watching Cheetah Girls 2 movie (yes, I admit I like the music ;D) The character "Marisol" has on a top hat, tux jacket, and jeans with one leg cut off into shorts and the other with a hole in the knee. I started laughing and said "that's totally something Claud would dream up!" The Cheetah Girls' costumes at the end are pretty Claudia-like too.

What was with Claud and the odd hair accessories??? And did the other girls REALLY believe her "creations" were so cool or were they just trying to be nice? I always thought they sounded hideous.
