Sorry to be cheesy but I got emotional reading this, and it is a beautiful thing though I never really gave it much thought, but the stupid BSC movie from 1995 did not represent that well at all.
My mom is also in a relationship and the guy she's with is so amazing and sweet, he reminds me of my dad in a lot of ways but is more soft spoken and though I love my own dad so much, I've really warmed up to this guy and love him like a dad.

I like reading about their relationship. I think it was realistic because it was gradual. At first, Kristy hated Watson but as time went on, she began to consider him a father.

That's realistic, I assume, once she realized fully that there was no chance Patrick would come bak to Elizabeth.

I loved that bond also...I think once Patrick left, Kristy knew early on that he was not returning, so Kristy never held on the any false hope that Patrick would return.
I think Kristy was a tad resistant to Watson joining the family at first because she remembered how badly Patrick had hurt her mum and she didn't want to see her mum hurt again.
Once she saw how different Watson was from Patrick and how Watson still stayed close to his two kids after his divorce, she warmed up to Watson and was ready to welcome him into her family.

I can completely see Kristy calling Watson Dad by ninth or tenth grade...David Michael also.
