Which sitter do you think is the best friend to the other members? This may or may not be the one you would most want for a friend but just wondering who you thought was the most supportive, loyal, and always there for the other girls.

I voted for Jessi because she always seems really loyal and supportive. She does get upset about thinking others are racists but she always seems to be there for Mallory, especially. I'm thinking of scenes like California Girls and Sea City when she gives Mal advice and how she dedicates her whole Hawaii vacation to taking pictures and writing a journal for Mallory. I know she gets upset when Mal decides to go to boarding school but I think that is just because she feels like Mallory is really the only person who will be there for her. Mallory usually seems like a pretty good friend, too, so would probably be my second choice. I like it, especially, in books like Claudia Queen of the Seventh Grade where they support Claudia. I also like it how they try to stay out of the other girls' petty fights. I actually think Kristy might be the best friend of the older girls but I'd have to think more about that because I can remember some instances of her not being supportive. I know Stacey, Claudia, Dawn, MA definitely aren't always and don't really know about Abby.

I voted for Jessi. She never told anyone that she wanted them "out of her life forever." mallory is too self-absorbed to be a good friend. but jessi put up with a lot of crap from mal and was there for the older girls too, like in kristy + bart = ?.

I haven't read Kristy + Bart for a while. What did Jessi do in that one? I always like hearing examples that support my thoughts on a character ;D

I voted Mallory, but she isn't so much of a good friend as she is a doormat who lets the other girls be mean to her for the sake of having friends.

Jessi for sure. I agree with baseballchica, Mallory isn't really that great of a friend I don't think. She's just desperate for friends and desperate to fit in so she flies under the radar and avoids pissing the supa cool older girls off. Jessi doesn't seem like she actually cares what other people think about her, she is nice to them because she's genuinely a nice person. not that Mal isn't nice, but she tries to hard and her motives are probably a bit disingenuous.
Stacey is ready to drop the BSC everytime they're the least bit uncool so she sucks. Claudia eh... she's another one that strikes me as desperate for friendship. Kristy is a good friend I think, she's very loyal to MA. MA is a good friend albeit a bit unhinged at times. Dawn practically disowns the BSC in CA diaries so boo to her. And... i think thats all of them? Im not counting Abby really since she isn't around as long. Abby seems like she could take the BSC or leave them.
also I don't think mal stayed out of fights because she wanted to be nice, she stayed out because she was scared of having the attention and anger thrown on her.

^ I agree that most of Mal's motivation might come from just wanting friends but I think she does genuinely try to be a good friend. I will have to think more about this, though ;D Also agree about the other girls. I have seen a few instances of MA not being supportive (now I can't remember the exact book but she is the only girl in one of them who doesn't believe something) and Kristy, too. Now I wish I could remember the examples of this because it is driving me crazy ;D Claud is strange because while she's desperate for friends, she also doesn't hesitate to be unsupportive.

I think all the girls are decent friends in their own ways. When I come down to it, I have to think Jessi is the most supportive friend of all of them. She could drive me nuts sometimes but she was always there for Mal for the most part and it seemed like she tried to be there for everyone else as well.

As I said in the Poor Mallory thread, one of my favorite Jessi moments is in that book when those girls are making fun of Mallory in the cafeteria and Jessi says "If you don't do something, I will."

After reading all your comments, I vote Jessi too. MA would be second to me, but she does have moments...

BTW, MA strikes me as the prototypical person that would tattle on you to Big Brother in a heart beat. Edit: And I voted for MA, I think. Not sure why.

You know something else that came to mind--when Dawn first shows Mary Anne the secret passage, Dawn says something about the ghost of Jared, and Mary Anne freaks, runs back, and tries to shove the wall to the passage closed with Dawn still in it! Haha.
All this love for Jessi is cool. She'd be my pick too, I think.

Kristy is much too possessive and controlling--not someone I'd want as a friend.
Claudia is too desperate and needy.
Mary Anne can be rather catty in her own little passive aggressive way, but she's my second pick.
Stacey...well....we all know how SHE can be.
Dawn ditches them whenever California comes calling.
Mallory seems to have other motives at times. And she needs too much support haha.
Don't know too much of Abby...so Jessi!!
But we know how they ALL get when another member gets a new friend...soooo meh.

^ Totally agree, secondhandshoes. Actually, I think they're all pretty decent friends in their own way - better than the group I had at 13, at least (but I guess maybe that just means that I had really crappy friends ;D)
