Hmm, I thought there was a Jessi/Quint topic, but I can only see a Mallory/Ben topic... Anyway! We all love and adore the totally realistic Jessi/Quint ship, and I was reading the Shadow Lake SS and found the most hilarious scene.
(p212-213)
"And you think Daniel is going to... what?" Mal's voice trailed off.
"I think that at the dance tonight he's going to... profess his love for me."
"You do? Gosh," breathed Mallory, awed. "No boy has ever, um, professed his love for me. When Ben Hobart and I go to movies and to dances and stuff, we always, well, we always just watch movies and dance. And talk, of course, but about things like what our brothers have done and why there should be movies that adults are not allowed to see."
"Daniel is older than Quint and Ben," I pointed out. "An entire year older."
*laughs lots* This scene is even more hilarious after having spent three months on these forums snarking about Jessi's relationships. Oh, poor, unsophisticated Mal and her unromantic conversations.

That was totally my favourite moment in that entire book! I could not stop laughing when I read it, and then when I finally controlled myself I rang a friend of mine (who is also a BSC fan) and read it to her over the phone. Took a few goes to get it out cos I was laughing so much. Totally love it when Daniel tells her he has a girlfriend when she gets up the courage to tell him she has a sort of boyfriend!

I love how Jessi thinks that Daniel is mature enough to profess his love for her because he's all of TWELVE YEARS OLD.

Geez. ;D Although when you look at the difference between Quint (tipping chin, kissing gently) and the Pike Triplets (playing hide and seek, Wandering Frog People) maybe it's not so hilarious after all. One whole year DOES seem to make a difference in BSC land. I need to read Shadow Lake again! Ha! |
