But her most hated quality ever is LATENESS. That is a crime worthy of THE LOOK.

train bathrooms are really gross. i would be grossed out too.
also about diabetes and weight: type II diabetes are associated with being overweight, because it usually develops from being overweight. type I, which is what stacey has, diabetes are not.

One thing that bothers me about Stacey now as I read the books is her wealth (or lack of). I recall in one book she states that her family is NOT rich, but lets look at the facts shall we? -Lived in an apartment with a view of central park -went to private school (probably one of the best in the city considering Laine went there and her parents were undeniably loaded) -mother racks up a $5000 bill at Tiffanys(?) in one month -dad offers her a spur of the moment trip anywhere she wants on earth -frequents broadway shows -meals at fab eateries like The Rainbow Room, The Russian Tea Room, The Plaza, and Tavern on the Green to name a few -mother doesn't work, and doesn't really have to work even after the divorce -All apartments lived in had doormen -Never (to my knowledge) takes the subway, possibly because shes too young but she could've gone on with her dad instead of zooming around in taxis or his car all the time
So in conclusion, not only was Stacey rich she was also spoiled.

^ITA. Well, at least on the rich thing. It doesn't make any sense that Stacey's family didn't move to Kristy's neighborhood.

^ yeah, they made SUCH a point of how Kristy's stepfather was a REAL LIVE MILLIONAIRE but it was never even suggested that Stacey's family was wealthy when they clearly were.

Stacey's dad's UES apartment didn't have a doorman, I think. But yeah, her dad had to be LOADED to pay for all that stuff. It actually seems sometimes that they were richer than Kristy's family. Stacey does take the subway sometimes, but that's not a demarcation of being rich or poor because basically everyone does it because it is without a doubt the most convenient and the quickest way to get around the city. But jeez, with an apartment overlooking Central Park and 5000$ Tiffany's bills he has to be at least as rich as Watson, if not more. Maybe Stacey was just sort of oblivious to this fact because she only knows rich kids in the city?

What exactly does Watson being a millionaire mean anyway? A million dollars isn't much, even back then. He's different from Mr. McGill in that he's rich because he inherited family money, at least that's how I understood it. The mansion is a family house. He really doesn't splurge much, does he? Even with the billion vacations, he never took them to any place fancy. No European trips like Stacey.

And their apt when they moved back to NYC had two bedrooms, a den, living room and kitchen room and dining room. The theory about her being oblivious is interesting. I mean she was best friends with Laine who lived in the Dakota. So maybe she thought of Laine as rich, but herself as just average or something. Which book does she ride the subway? Is it in "New York, New York"? because I havent been able to finish that one yet..

Has it always been so expensive to live in NYC though? Because I remember reading lots of books as a kid about families in NYC - the Fudge series by Judy Blume, as one example - but there was never any suggestion that they were rich.
I have to agree with the $5,000 thing though. And Mr McGill didn't even notice the money was gone until he received the bills? WTF?
The only time they made mention of money was in Stacey's Emergency. One of them was pissed off because Stacey was in a more expensive private room.
To a little kid though, someone being a OMG MILLIONAIRE does seem impressive. The SVH series always made a big deal of George Fowler being a millionaire as well.
Well, remember, he also had to cart Kristy's six friends on every vacation which is sure to eat into the budget somewhat! ;D
That makes sense, considering she grew up in those circumstances, whereas Kristy had the millionaire stuff sprung on her when she was 12 or something, so didn't take it for granted.
Still, NONE of the girls - the other BSC members I mean - ever even hinted that Stacey's family were anything but average. They were all SOOOOOOOOOO impressed with Watson but never made mention of Stacey's indulgent life.

Maybe they don't think of Stacey as wealthy because they think everything that's sophisticated about her is just because she's from New York. Like it's something in the air she breathes rather than the stuff she buys.
So true.
She takes the subway in SM#4, because Claudia was tired, and there was too much traffic for a cab or bus.
