Don't discourage your niece! She's going to learn the right things in theright order, instead of all mixed up the way girls who grow up too fast do. She'll be able to handle each thing as it comes much better. Now she knows hse has permission to get her ears pierced if she wants to, so she may want to in a month or not for several year (or ever).

I've never liked Mallory.
Probably because she's the complete opposite of me.
For example, I'm athletic, she's a wimp. I'm a little blonde haired-blue eyed girl, and she's a frizzy red-head. I'm an artist, she's a writer. I'm "rich", she's poor. I have perfect vision, she has glasses.
Prettty much the only thing we have in common is that I have to get braces on Monday for the second time (I had them in first grade, too). ^I'm not trying to be rude, but your post is impossible to read. The colored type is hard to see. no problem, i can edit it for everyone. I'm not trying to brag about myself, I'm just telling the truth. I'm not going to lie about myself.
Looks don't really matter. I was just saying that to show how much we're opposites.
She just seems to complain about a lot of stuff, that's all. It just really bugs me after a while. I was just stating my opinion of what I think about her. I don't really understand why I am "complaining" about her. All I meant by this was that I don't really like her because we're nothing alike and IMO she seems kind of whiny. [/center] snomihcs, I don't think you're complaining too much. I just personally feel your reasons for not liking Mal are odd, like how you mostly talk about her looking completely the opposite to you. Are all your friends little, blonde and blue-eyed? Would you never want to be friends with someone who isn't? If you'd talked about parts of Mal's personality that might make you dislike her (like your view that she's too whiny- that's a good reason), rather than simply because she looks different to you, people might not... um, dismiss it so easily. But that's just my opinion. I'm not saying that I don't like her because of the way she looks, I was just saying that to show how much we're opposites. They do that with Mal and Jessi don't they? Pretty much none of my friends look nothing like me at all. Mal just seems to find something to complain about in every book of hers that I've read(I seriously considered just skipping a few of them since I got so tired of it). booboobrewer, I meant that were both good at both, but she's definately better at writing and I'm definately better at art.

I'm an artist, she's a writer. Mallory's goal is to be a writer and illustrator of children's books. She likes to draw and sketch and the biggest example of this is in New York, New York.

Are looks really a good basis for a dislike of a character? And I don't really see how Mal not being into sports makes her a 'wimp.'

snomihics: Not to be rude, but it sounds like you're just trying to think of a way to brag about yourself.
Back to Mallory...she's always been one of my favorite characters. I loved how level-headed she was most of the time, and I really loved her family. I thought she had a great relationship with everyone in her family, and she was also a loyal friend.

I've always liked Mallory, because I could relate to her. I love writing and I was the awkward sixth-grader to a tee. She was the most realistic of the bunch, IMO.
Now, I like her even more!
I'm sure most of you know why ;D

^No wonder you're so good at Mallory. And yes, Mallory seemed to be one of the most realistic.

^I think you are great at playing Mallory too. Whenever I think of you, I think of Mallory. Then whenever I read about Mallory, I think of you. It is kind of funny, in a good way of course.

LOL, thanks, sarish! I do the same thing with Alan and Mary Anne. They'll go 'Alan is such a pest' in a book, and I'm thinking 'Nah, he's a lot more mature than you know, BSC' ;D

I like Mallory sometimes, but not all the time. I really dislike her in "Mallory Hates Boys and Gym" because while I am not the most athletic person around, I don't have a lot of patience for people who aren't even trying and are scared of the ball. I know, it's horrible. They used to make me take out a kayak on canoe day at camp because no one would be my partner. It's not my fault that I had better muscle tone and strength and a can do attitude. But I also never really looked at it from other people's perspective either. I still don't "get" mallory when she's all scared of volleyball, but I can try to understand that some people are afraid of being hurt. I have an irrational fear of frogs, so, maybe it's kind of comparable. But anyway, I liked Mallory In "Mallory and the Mystery Diary", and in "Poor Mallory".

For example, I'm athletic, she's a wimp. Mallory may not like sports, but she's far from a wimp. It took a lot of guts to refuse to participate in gym. She was willing to take a lot of crap for it AND at the risk of jeopardizing her grade. That's not wimpy. *shrug* You sure seem to be doing a lot of complaining about a fictional character.

I dont' think it's wimpy, but I don't agree with her freaking out over a volleyball match. But I also don't like the teacher not setting up the teams according to strength, and encouraging such overly competitive behavior where people could get hurt. Granted, If I were a PE instructor (and let's be greatful that I'm not) I would probably NOT have a volleyball section because volleyball is lame and IME involves a lot of standing around and chatting.

That's not wimpy. I strongly agree. Since when does being unathletic mean being wimpy? Mallory may not have handled some situations with the greatest attitude and/or confidence, but she stuck up for herself on more than one occasion, and that's not wimpy.
