Regarding the topic Kristy and clothes:
I have a headcanon that she has quite a few flats in her closet that she wears to important events like award ceremonies (like in Kristy and the Missing Child) and to school dances.

I like to think that Kristy's dressy fashion is influenced by Mary Anne. She hates dressing up because her mom's style is too matronly for her, but MA has swishy skirts and shoes in fun colors.

I also headcanon that the reason why Kristy was wearing a dress on the original cover of Kristy's Great Idea was be it was school picture day and Elizabeth wanted her to look her very best.

Kristy was my favorite as a kid because I was a tomboy as well (although I wasn't into sports, more so video games and Legos). She also struck me as one of the funnier club members, and she still does.
As an adult though, she bugs me with how she can be kind of a tyrant. This isn't as present in early books (she's fairly well-rounded in early books), but in later ones, she REALLY grates. I really didn't like her in the Haunted House Super Mystery or in Kristy's Worst Idea. Idk, after becoming a working adult, she just reminds me too much of bad managers I've had haha. I dislike the corporate world and can imagine her becoming one of those bosses. In the early books, she is much more reasonable.
In regards to clothes, Stacey and Claudia were very annoying about Kristy, even early on. "She's cute but she doesn't try, I wish she'd wear something else for once, she's so immature, etc etc." Fashion sense does NOT equal maturity! I don't get what their issue with jeans is in the later books either (heck, there are work environments where jeans are allowed but leggings aren't). That's very normal for a 13-year-old girl to wear. Iirc, Dawn wore them most of the time too, and no one gave her grief about it. Maybe I take everything too seriously, but this really bothers me upon re-read. I do wonder if Kristy ever felt bad about herself because of comments they made, especially when Mary Anne began to change her style to be more preppy/ trendy.

Kristy mainly has a "I don't care" attitude to the way she dresses, but I wonder is there a moment where she gets insecure? I wish that part of Kristy was explored more.

That's how my insecurity played out. I wanted to be cool, but I was so uncool that I just leaned into it and acted like it was all a joke to me.
I have a nosy mom, so my appearance was always commented on. Putting on makeup or working out felt like being under a magnifying glass and my response was to get defensive. The only way to head off the comments was dressing in baggy boy clothes. I don't see Elizabeth doing this to Kristy, but Sam absolutely would call her out for trying anything new. If she was like me, she would respond by doubling down.

I was sort of the opposite- I wore guy clothes because I liked them and they were comfortable. My mom didn't care, but my sister always wanted me to be more girly and would comment on how bad I looked. Luckily, she doesn't do that anymore. I often felt for Kristy because it seemed like her friends did the same. I can't see Elizabeth making comments on her appearance either. Sam definitely. I do think she felt insecure at times, mostly in regards to Bart. I think she cared more about her appearance than she was willing to admit, although I think most people care at least a little.
