Lazy or just dumb? Personally, I go with the latter. Her "solutions" for solving the Middle School Mystery anyone?

The re-enactment! Heehee. Oh, Claudia.
My favourite Claudia moment is when she first meets with Rosa, her tutor in the book where she's sent back to 7th grade, and Rosa tells her she's lazy and has terrible study habits. You tell her!

^She was a freakin' moron.
Also, when they found the airtight evidence in Shawna Riverson's locker, it used to frustrate me so much that she didn't just claim she'd found it on the floor... of course, then she'd have to prove that Shawna's friend actually wrote it, but still.
Just another inconsistency. In Middle School Mystery, Shawna was described as being a generally smart, well-respected student (hence no one would accuse her of cheating). And then in Mary Anne + 2 Many Babies she became a raging dumbass.

I just thought it was inconsistent that she was supposed to have an above avg. IQ yet had to "work like a dog" to pass her regular classes. I dunno. I just never really liked her. It just seems as if she lets me down somehow in every single book she was in.

One inconsistency that really bugged me was Claudia and whether or not she could use the library. In some books (especially the mystery ones), she's the expert on the micro-thingy machine, and I remember there being a comment that even though she's not great at schoolwork, she *is* a librarian's daughter and a genius's sister. And yet, in "Claudia and the First Thanksgiving", when the student librarian asks her, Stacey and Abby if they know how to use the catalogue, Claudia blanches.

Maybe she thinks microfilm is more detectivey than a card catalogue. I don't think she's lazy. I think she's very careless and occassionally displays qualities of the airhead variety. Was she ever tested for ADD?

Does having a talent in art really detract from your academic abilities?

She shared her candy. That makes her ok in my book.

Were snacks and stuff really cheap back in the BSC day? Because if I were to feed seven girls three times a week, the cost of those snacks could easily climb to about $30 a week, or $10 a meeting. Why doesn't the club treasury pay for it?! How does Claudia afford it?? She buys so many clothes, shoes and accessories, as well! And she doesn't seem to work more than anyone else.

I thought they did say that they used the treasury to pay for snacks?

Hmm... I don't remember them ever using the treasury to pay for snacks. They claimed "if there is any left over, we use it for a pizza party or sleepover" - plus they always made a point of how generous Claud was with her junk food. I have often questioned how she could afford everything she had. None of them seemed to get money from their parents, they seemed to rely solely on their club earnings. Also, in Stacey and the Missing Ring, Claudia is miserable about having to return the new shoes she bought because she wasn't making enough money to pay for art supplies. So there's another expense. So many outfits that every Chapter Two, the girls remark in awe "I don't think I've ever seen Claud wear the same thing twice!", a bottomless pit of hidden snacks and Nancy Drews (I presume Claudia owned them, she never claimed to borrow them from a library), accessories/jewellery/makeup galore, PLUS her art supplies. Baby-sitting must be very lucrative.

Yeah, I don't think they used the treasury for snacks. I just don't think the Claudia-supplying-junk-food bit was thought out very practically... Unless junk food happens to be very, very cheap in Stoneybrook. But even so, you'd think the others could chip in. Baby-sitting must be very lucrative indeed

yeah, like how much $$$ did she blow a week on junk food? cos she had so much in her room. was she making that much money? how unrealistic.
her friends should have been grateful that she bought them food each meeting. i hated how kristy would always say ' claudia is our vice president but she doesnt do anything'. shut up. she lets u use her room, her phone and supplys u food to stuff ur tomboy face.
and i hated in the ashley book when they ate all her junk and left mean notes. and i would be pissed if my friends were hanging out in my room without me being there, what the hell??

They always said she was VP because they use her room/phone and junk food.
They still held the meetings in her room because that's where they're held. They told her that if she didn't want to be in the club anymore, they'd find someplace else to do it and notify their clients. But they didn't because Claudia kept claiming she still wanted to be in the club and would go to the meetings, but always backed out at the last minute. The hiding of her food and leaving notes was definitely childish and mean, but they are 13 year old girls. Claudia was irresponsible (ignoring everything but art) and ditched them because, really, she's more of a follower and let Ashley lead her away. It was bad behavior all around. They have fights every few books, which is probably not unrealistic.
