Haha, that's true! I'd forgotten about that.

For some reason, I remember, from somewhere, that Janine hid junk food too. Like, she confided that secret to Claudia. Ah man, I can't find that anywhere. I think I might have just imagined it. Darn

No, you didn't imagine it - I remember it too! Unless we both imagined it...which isn't too likely. Can't give you a reference though, sorry.

I loved how Janine hid junk food, too. Not so much for the junk food but just having something in common with Claudia. It was never mentioned again, though.

I can't believe that the Kishi parents were so strict that even *Janine* had to hide junk food... Man, that's strict!

^ It was almost as if the girls were hiding food for the fun of it, not because their parents were so strictly forbidding it. I mean, come on. When Claudia curled up in bed with a "good Nancy Drew" and a Snickers bar, didn't her parents EVER walk in?

Maybe she has lightning fast reflexes. You've got a good point, though - she seemed to just enjoy having food close by.

I always figured the Kishi's knew very well what Claudia (and apparently Janine) were up to, they just turned a blind eye to it and laughed at how clever Claud thought she was being.

They had to figure something was up when Claudia's bedsheets with a big nasty chocolate stain wound up in the laundry. Or else they thought she had loose bowels and didn't want to discuss it with her. You'd think Claud would be enough of a junk food expert that she wouldn't hide the melty stuff in bed with her. Sleep with some Twizzlers if you really did something that close to you.

Haha "loose bowels"! That was nasty how MA notices a chocolate stain on her bed in one book and Claudia thinks nothing of it and flips the blanket over. Ugh, sounds like she was living in a pigsty what with all the candy and art supplies and things. And there was a mention in like every other book of the chips getting smushed and her passing around bags of crumbs

Something I've never understood about the girls constantly eating Claud's junk food is why no one else ever brought snacks. It's beyond rude to expect one person to provide the treats three days a week. Mary Anne and Dawn supposedly enjoyed baking, so why didn't they ever bring over cookies or cake? When I was in middle/high school, I often baked cookies for my friends at school and youth group. The BSC are total moochers.
I've always wondered if Claudia really is a fantastic artist. The BSC gushed about her art a lot, but is that just because they're her friends? People tend to give their friends more credit than they deserve, which isn't necessarily bad, just something that goes with friendship. Personally, I often imagine that Claudia's a good artist, but far from the next world famous painter/potter/sculptor/whatever.

We've got discussion about the BSC being moochers somewhere around here! But since we go off-topic so often, I can't remember which thread it was in... But yes, total word. I'm annoyed at how the BSC would pay her for her phone but not her food.
In Middle School Dropout, it gives the impression that Claudia really IS a great artist. She wins an art show! And a professional artist tells her that she's omg awesome.

Claudia is ALWAYS getting fantastic compliments about her art. She wins an honorable mention for a piece that is only half-done. Her teacher in NY NY thinks she's something special. It goes on and on... but I still don't think of her as a great artist.

I have never thought of Claudia as someone who would be an amazing great artist someday either, even though she was apparently so great she won honorable mentions for unfinished projects. Not because she was bad, but because it's such a difficult world to get into if you're not truly amazing. If she would've spent so much time on her art as her 'friend' in number 12, maybe she could have been really great.
