The name Lyman makes me think of that annoying friend of Jon's from earlier Garfield cartoons who stopped appearing in the comic after a few years. OMG Me too! I totally didn't think anyone else remembered that friend.

I really like Logan and I admit, he's actually one of my fave BSC characters so far.

Would your perception of Logan have changed if he had a different accent? Like if he was from Boston or Chicago. Or Jersey, lol.

Neat question, sparkly. I think so. The southern accent subconsciously gives him a Rhett Butler characteristic. If he were from Boston I' suppose he'd be a hockey player. Can you imagine the ghostwriters spelling "pahk" and the like?

Speaking of Rhett Butler/GWTW...since everyone loved that movie in the books, I thought it would have been more appropriate if he had been from a Deep South state like Georgia instead of Kentucky...would have made him seem like more of a true "southern gentleman" ;D

^ i think i read in one of ann's letters that her family was from louisville. but i agree, a lot of his southern-ness was implied.

Yeah, she expands more on the Louisville side of her family in her bio...definitely has to be the reason he's from there!

You posted what I wanted to post, lovelylemontree. I think the reason Logan wanted to be with Mary Anne was because out of all the girls his age, Mary Anne would be the only one that he could control.

I don't believe for a second that Mary Anne was the only girl at SMS that Logan could control. Not even the only girl in the BSC. Claudia wasn't the most assertive person either. I think Stacey was needy of male attention and would have gobbled up his attentiveness.
I do agree with lovelylemontree that Logan's controlling side didn't just pop up suddenly. If you look just at Mary Anne's books then their relationship was always pretty rocky. #10 Logan Likes Mary Anne--Logan was introduced as this perfect guy #17 Mary Anne's Bad Luck Mystery--Logan couldn't even say the word "girlfriend" yet #25 Mary Anne and the Search for Tigger--Logan was a moody jerk who was too self involved to fake interest in Mary Anne's crisis #30 Mary Anne and the Great Romance--can't remember anything offensive he did in this one. Must have been in Mr. Perfect mode. #34 Mary Anne and Too Many Boys--Mary Anne showed that other boys weren't dead to her by having a flirtatious friendship at the beach. #40 Mary Anne vs. Logan--They broke up. #44 Mary Anne Misses Logan--They got back together, but not before Logan led Cokie on and treated her like crap. #52 Mary Anne + 2 Many Babies--They fought about their egg project through the whole book #60 Mary Anne's Makeover--Logan thought her new makeover was hot and from this book on he seemed to be back in Perfect Boyfriend mode. Coincidence that things got better when she got prettier? Hmm.

When I look at some of the illustrations of Mary Anne post haircut, she didn't look prettier than when she did pre haircut.

Coincidence that things got better when she got prettier? Hmm. ...or when she started resembling a boy just kidding. Although Logan didn't seem too jazzed about the fact that she got a short haircut at first, she must have been pretty hot with the makeup, new outfits, etc. Yeah, Logan is pretty much Mr. Perfect in #60, and what book was Dawn's big date? #50? He seemed perfect in that one too, and then like two books later they're in a huge fight again. That's probably why Logan bugs me so much--he's super nice and laid-back in some books, and then in others he and Mary Anne are blowing up at each other and it makes me wonder why she even wanted to stay with him; the others in the club always described him as "understanding" of Mary Anne, when he really wasn't...I think he was tolerant and sympathetic when it suited him, but I don't think he was all that understanding of her.

I always thought (still do) that Dawn was right on about Mary Anne's haircut. Mean but true. She resembles an angry boy with bushy eyebrows. Is that a "bowl cut" by the way? I know Marilyn and Carolyn were said to have had that look but other than their very curly and big hair in #21, don't remember ever seeing them with bowl-ed hair. When I was young, I had a haircut similar to MA's new one. I honestly have no clue or memory as to why. I do remember come later elementary school always wanting the long, nice hair that a friend of mine had. Now my poor hair is medium length. To each their own and if MA's locks made her happpy then so be it.

I think his birthday was this month so he would have just turned 37. I believe the older BSC Members and Logan were all borin in 1974. Mal and Jessi in 1976. I "know" this because it took me a while to be okay with the fact that I'd be a random, discounted 12 year old in Stoneybrook. (I was born in '75).
