Well, she was black. But that made no difference to me.

It just bugged me that she was too talented. There were girls that graduated her class without getting leads and she had already gotten so many when she hadn't been there that long, since she was the youngest. I wonder if there might have been some favoritism going on by Mme Noelle.
p.s. I made the starting post the way I did because I had absolutely nothing to say about her, just wanted to get her thread started.

Shut up. She was black? She was boring as hell and got totally random storylines. Her feet were probably all nasty and deformed from dancing in toe shoes at such a young age. Her 'I don't need a sitter, I am one!' book when Aunt Cecelia moved in made me want to punch her in the nose.

She was horrible in that book! With Jackie and the volcano.
She semed so young in the movie; I couldn't imagine a kid like that getting so many leads in ballets. Then again, she's SUPER DUPER TALENTED and not even the tiniest bit conceited.
I don't hate her more than any other character, but I don't like her more than any other character either. I liked "Jessi's Gold Medal", nd "Jessi's Big Break" was cool, too... Everything else was a bit meh.

Jessi did get the most boring books. Jessi Ramsey, Pet Sitter?, Jessi and the Superbrat, and a bunch others, BORING. I did enjoy some of her dancing-related books (Dance School Phantom and Jessi's Gold Medal.) And for some reason I really liked that book with her and Mr. Trout. I can't even remember the name of it now, but I know I liked it.

Her 'I don't need a sitter, I am one!' book when Aunt Cecelia moved in made me want to punch her in the nose. Ugh, word. What did she expect her parents to say? Oh, okay Jessi. We forgot you're a childcare expert. Feel free to quit school and "babysit" for Squirt full time.

The one with Mr Trout is Jessi's Horrible Prank. That was the one with the Dollys, wasn't it? And some school talent show thing?
No one's brought it up yet (not on these boards, I don't think. It was on the old ones), but how unrealistic was Jessi looking after Becca and Squirt for a weekend in Island Adventure? And she had a little b*tch at Aunt Cecilia when she said that was irresponsible!

i seriously dont think that i have read more than a handful of jessi books. theyre so boring and she has no personality other than she is black and likes baby sitting, horse stories and ballet.
i did like the one with the ballet mystery. but jessis horrible prank has to be one of the worst books. so boring and pointless and i really wish i hadnt bought it on ebay.

Do you mean Jessi and the Dance School Phantom? I liked that as well, despite it being TOTALLY predictable and also kinda dumb. She was receiving threatening notes on a daily basis, had expensive (for an eleven yr old) stuff stolen and suffered injury as a result of some stupid jealous b*tch but didn't tell her parents because she didn't want to "worry" them. And Mama and Daddy didn't notice that anything was wrong until almost the end of the book (but even then, Jessi didn't tell them). Good moral there, ghostwriter. Don't go to your parents even when the situation is serious.

I like Jessi! I think she's funny.
I do agree, however, it was ridiculous that an 11 year old was watching a baby and an 8 year for a whole weekend in Island Adventure!

Are there many instances of Jessi being a comedian/joker? When Mal first meets her in "Hello, Mallory", like, the second thing Jessi says is "Do you want to hear a joke?". But I don't recall that being mentioned in the rest of the series at all.

I actually thought Jessi made quite a few funny comments in the earlier books. I don't have any specific examples, but when I started re-reading the series, I remember thinking "I don't recall Jessi being so funny!". She definitely did get a lot of boring storylines, though. Jessi's Wish was SO dull.

Yeah, I remember Jessi being witty and clever before she became simply the token black girl without a personality.
