i never liked jessi- her stories were boring. Also, the whole thing with her dancing- 11 year olds are barely beginning on pointe in ballet, some schools won't let them until 7th grade. its a bone development thing. i always found it annoying that she was 11 and being offered these lead roles and was taking entire classes on pointe. weren't there older dancers at the school?

^ Yeah, she was the youngest. The oldest was about 16, and that was "old".

That reminds me of Karen's chapter 2s where we always heard that Charlie and Sam were so old they went to high school. LOL, I remember when high school kids seemed ancient.

Not me, but it is still a funny thought though.

When I was in first grade the oldest kids at school were in 8th grade. They seemed so old and mature at the time. Then I got to 8th grade.

I remember Karen always saying that too. That always makes me laugh now, cause 15 and 17? They're babies.

Same for me. I find myself calling 20 year olds "little kids" Of course, sometimes I feel 60. I've always been "old". I used to think that I was old when I was 14.

Yeah, I am like that too, especially when talking about school vacations, I even refer to the high schoolers as "kids"

I now think of college seniors as babies.
That's what happens when you get old!

I just read through all those posts about hamsters and goldfish dying...that was the funniest thing ever!
Anyway. When I was little, and read all that stuff in chapter 2 about "people not being very nice to the Ramseys when they first moved to Stoneybrook," I always thought that I must have missed a really interesting book somewhere in the teens. When I finally got all those books earlier this year, I found out I didn't miss anything! The racism was confined to a few snarky comics from people like Mal's friends. What's up with that?

Hmm, I think there were a few instances where the neighbors wouldn't talk to the Ramseys or something.. it's been awhile since I read the books where Jessi was first introduced so my memory is a little fuzzy, but wasn't there something about how Charlotte and her family were the first in the neighborhood to show any hospitality to them?

The "not being nice" was mostly one little girl's mom telling her not to go and play with Jessi and Becca, the girls talking about Jessi at school, and people not bringing them dinner or having a big welcoming party. Guess that's a big deal in a place like Stoneybrook.

I just read all the comments about Jessi looking weird on the covers...I am glad to know I am not the only person that thought that. I always thought she looked like a man on a lot of the covers.
