I'm not sure if I've already posted in here, but if I did it was years ago. I like Abby, she's not my cup of tea personally, like in real life, and she was sometimes annoying. But she was funny, different and challenged Kristy, but not in an aggressive way. Kristy needed that.
I really need to read the later books again though, because book cannon Abby is slighty blurred with RPG Abby, who I hated.
I know I loved her Portrait book though! Great way to get to know her.

My experience being a BSC fan as a preteen was a bit different from most of the other people on this board because I discovered the series at least 4/5 years after it ended. Because libraries tend to get rid of older books in poor condition, the BSC books that were available to me at this time were books from around 1996-2000 (if they had any of the books from the 80s, they were ALL with the reprint covers). So the first BSC books I read were ones that featured Abby, and I feel as if I've read more of her books than I have Dawn's! I know I'm biased because of this, but I liked Abby because she was a less-bitchy version of Kristy

I absolutely adore Abby and she's my favorite sitter. I agree with you - she feels like a better version of Kristy in a lot of ways! Early in the series, Kristy's word was the law and the other sitters grumbled occasionally but never changed the status quo. Abby was always willing to go toe-to-toe and challenge Kristy, and she was the first one who I think felt like Kristy's equal.

I like Abby also...and Anna...I wish Anna had joined the BSC, even if it was only as an associate member.

She doesn't have to come to meetings and she earns some cash once in a while. So true! I felt like it was a waste of a great character. Maybe the Hawaii vacation one where Abby had to quickly pack. That would have been so great...I have the feeling that the twins' mum was an avid activist of many causes in her high school and university years. I'd have loved to read more on the Stevenson family in general.

I like Abby! Although I kind of wish that she and Anna switched places. Anna was the one in the club and Abby had was devoted to sports. She seems like she'd like to relax and not have to worry about the structure the BSC had.

She seems like she'd like to relax and not have to worry about the structure the BSC had. I don't think Abby was bothered by the BSC's structure. I still wish both of the Stevensons could have been in the club. I'm glad the BSC had more than one girl athlete in the club. Until the BSC series, there were too many other books and series where only boys were on sports teams and the girls were too commonly relegated to being cheerleaders...eg, Fabulous Five and Sweet Valley High. I'm glad that cheerleading was not a huge deal at SMS or SHS. Abby and Anna were both so intriguing in their different ways. And it was great to see a widowed mum for a change since too many other books overuse the widowed dad storyline.
