I had a baby-sitter until I was around 11...unless my parents were going to be out very late. Even now if they're not home when I go to bed, I never falll asleep until they are, which is kinda wierd because what are they going to do that I'm not if something were to happen?

My mom likes to tell a story about how when she was 17 or 18 she baby-sat for her future brother-in-law's kids. (She was dating my dad, sitting for his brother's kids.) They were out really late and came home to find her asleep on the couch. My aunt was really angry that my mom fell asleep at like 2 in the morning, like apparently parents don't ever sleep at night.

^that's so weird. I have never baby sat for anyone who was liek "don't fall asleep". Usually, they point out that the couch is very comfortable if I want to take a nap after the kids are asleep. But then again, I totally babysat for really creepy people.

I'm another person who would prefer certain sitters based on what my kids were like. For rambunctious kids or sporty kids, I would choose Kristy or Logan. Mary Anne would be good for a more shy child, or at least one who wasn't prone to acting up. I can see Shannon being a good all-round tutor for a kid. If Mallory were older, I would choose her because (as they said in the early series, before she became a punching bag) she is practical and levelheaded; she also had a good sense of humor, which would probably be integral in dealing with kids. I would NOT hire Abby or Stacey. I think Abby would get the kids too wound up, causing injuries or damages to my home; I would peg Stacey as someone who would either spend the whole job on the phone or tart my daughter up with her makeup. Claudia and Jessi I'm on the fence about. I used to dress "strangely" myself so that wouldn't put me off, but I wouldn't want to come home and have to clean up the makings of paper-mache. Jessi we never really got a handle on, but she IS only eleven. Dawn gets another "no" as well. She could be really sarcastic sometimes with kids, which they didn't notice (look for this when you reread the books after say, #23), but still...she's losing her cool. sorry for being so long-winded!

I agree pretty much with Abby, but disagree about Stacey. I think Claudia might be more likely to do that, considering she likes to use face painting with her charges. Stacey might have had the opportunity to "tart" up Charlotte, her favorite kid, but that never came into question. I think Stacey is more likely to do that with someone she considers a peer (i.e. Tess Swinhart).

I think Stacey is extremely intelligent and understands kids very well. I don't really see her tying up the phone and stuff, once she got over her "bad girl" stage. She learned her lesson. She often came up with the answer to vexing kid problems--The Delaneys, for example.

I wouldn't hire Claudia because I would want a sitter that can spell.
Mallory and Mary Anne would be my first choices. Mary Anne seems to be reliable in an emergency. And Mallory has seven siblings, so she knows how to handle kids.

Some parents can't even spell. I don't think it's really a requirement. Claudia is very smart aside from her spelling...

It would depend on the kid for me like a shy quiet type would be Mary-Anne or Mallory. The rowdy kids would get Abby and Kristy. Picturing my "kids" I would hire them in this order:
Shannon Mary Anne Mallory Stacey Claudia (early books) Jessi Logan Kristy Abby Dawn

Based on the first half of the BSC books (I'm less familiar with the later ones), Mary Anne seems the most level headed, best able to cope with an emergency (Mary Anne Saves the Day) and obedient enough to follow all the parent's directions. Kristy would be a close second for her leadership skills, child development knowledge, and her take-charge, can-do attitude (yes, the ones that were described as the two "immature" ones would be the most trustworthy). Jessi (if I pretend that she's the same age as the other BSC girls) and Dawn would be my back-ups.
I would not hire Claudia (too much of a ditz) nor Stacey (too rebellious and has that wild streak) nor Mallory (has her head in the clouds at times and seems burnt out from playing mom to all her siblings too long). I'm not yet familiar with Abby or Shannon yet to make a judgement on them.

I wouldn't hire Kristy. Kids need discipline but she's too much of a control freak. I wouldn't hire Stacey. She strikes me as irresponsible and shallow and the type who'd spend the evening on the cell phone with her "luv" of the week instead of with the kids. Claudia no way. She'd probably turn my sofa into a mural and use the pasta I was saving for dinner in an art project like making herself some "dibble" earrings. I'd hire Dawn. She was a better mom than Mrs. Barrett and she did a great job cleaning. I'd hire Mallory since she was like Mommy Junior in the Pike house. I'd hire Mary Anne since she struck me as being responsible and patient. I'm on the fence about Jessi. Hey Kristys not a control freak stop it !!!

I would choose Kristy because I think she's the best with kids and she's a take-charge person and she's the most responsible sitter IMO.
I would also choose MA because she's sensitive, thoughtful, a good listener, and just a great sitter for kids IMO.
I might choose Mallory because she has a lot of experience with kids and she's levelheaded and could probably deal with emergencies the best. However, she is really young and I wouldn't want an 11 year old to sit for my (hypothetical) kids. I would let her watch kids around age 7-10 for about a half hour or an hour, though. Or I'd hire her a mother's helper.
I wouldn't choose Shannon as a sitter because IDK her very well but I'd choose her as a tutor since she's smart and a good student.
Sitters I WOULDN'T choose would be Stacy, Claudia, and Dawn. Stacy's an OK sitter overall, but she could be irresponsible sometimes like calling boys on the phone while babysitting or possibly even inviting boys on the job and stuff like that. I wouldn't choose Claudia because she's messy and probably wouldn't clean up the messes after doing art projects and she would bring junk food over and get the kids all hyper. Also, Claudia isn't very literate and she'd struggle helping kids with their homework. I wouldn't choose Dawn because she's stuck-up, snobby, over controlling, bossy, and she'd just take over kids' lives and even become their 2nd mother (I mean, she told Buddy he can't play with toy guns in #5...)
I'm not sure about Jessi and Abby. Jessi is nice and relaxed and would let kids do whatever within reason, I guess. Abby, I'm not sure, because of her allergies and clumsiness.

It's a tough question, but I have to go with Mallory,Mary Anne and Kristy. They seem like the only ones in the club who knows what they're doing.
I would never hire Dawn because she's such a killjoy and a hypocrite that she would suck out any fun and joy from my future children.

I wouldn't hire dawn either she's the one I'd least likely hire.

I've found that lots of moms just need a live body, so I think any of the 13 year olds would be acceptable.
