What do you think each of the sitters would study in college or do for a living? I don't think this topic has been started in another thread already; let me know if it has. Here's what I think:
Kristy- In college she would probably like the debate team or any activity involving leadership. She may take courses in business management. Not sure what type of business she'd go into....
Mary Anne- In college she'll go into something like psychology. I could see her doing anything that involves helping people.
Stacey- something involving math- no question about it. It's hard to say exactly what she'd study in college, but it would definitely be numbers/math related. She once expressed an interest in engineering, but I could see her doing something more business related as well, such as finance. After graduating from 8th grade, she said she maybe wanted to own a company or a chain of stores, so she'd probably study business management as well and then work in a fashion related genre.
Dawn-She'd probably want to study ecology or anything having to do with the environment.
Claudia- would study art, obviously. Would hate anything academic related in college and would focus her main energy on design classes of some kind.
Mallory- She would definitely become a writer someday and study writing classes in college, maybe something involving the production of plays. Would also have another career to support herself adequately. I could see her going into something involving computers.
Jessi- She's aiming for a professional dancing career, so she'd most likely study performing arts at a special school. She'd end up on Broadway and become famous.
Abby- Was described as an "okay student" so she may not be thrilled by major difficult subjects in college, but for some reason I like to imagine her as a stock/bond broker, maybe because she's so full of energy and drive, and I could just see her getting all hyper and excited like Jim Cramer from Mad Money. ;D Maybe that's just a random crazy idea, I don't know. She didn't like math in 8th grade, but may change her mind as I did in the future. Or she may go into another business type career that involves less numbers-dealing and more leadership opportunities. This is more likely. Could also be a gym teacher or coach.

Kristy - I actually think she'd study sports medicine, and either open a clinic or maybe work for a pro team. I think the clinic idea is probably more likely; I don't really know of any pro teams that hire female trainers/sports medicine people. Stacey - She'd study business, and end up using that in some way in the fashion industry. Mary Anne - I also think she'd make a great counselor, and would study psychology. I myself would love having someone like her to talk to! (Funny side note: The actress that played her on the tv series actually became a school counselor!!!) Claudia - Definitely art school. I could see her selling her creations at art fairs, farmer's markets, ect. She probably wouldn't get rich that way, but she'd be really happy. Mallory - She'd major in cretaive writing, and I think she'd end up being a fairly good writer of novels for middle readers/young adults. Jessi - She'd study dance, but maybe do more with sign language as well and make that a creer when dancing isn't something she can do anymore. She seemed to enjoy learning ASL. Dawn - She'd definitely study ecology, and maybe go to work in a national park or something, educating people about the importance of preserving the environment. Abby - I like the gym teacher idea, but I could also see her playing soccer semi-pro or pro. She'd at least play in college.

I agree with your predictions starrynight except for the one about kristy. kristy did not seem to do so well in biology in the series and honestly i think her love of being bossy and running things is bigger than her love of athletics. i see her as a ceo.

^ Agree. I can kind of see Abby struggling through some type of science courses and becoming a PT or OT or something. Or maybe a HS Phys Ed teacher and coach. Kristy would definitely tend to do something in business. I can see her getting a business degree and eventually taking over Unity from Watson.

Stacey would major in Economics or Accounting in college, where she'd be heavily involved in a sorority. Eventually, she would work for a company in NYC.
Mary Anne expressed interest in teaching, so I could see her working at an elementary school in Stoneybrook (I honestly cannot see her living/working in NYC).
Kristy would end up being a P.E. teacher at the same elementary school as Mary Anne. SES?
Mallory wouldn't stick around the 'Brook. She'd move out to Seattle, get a loft apartment and write books.
Jessi would teach ballet to kids on the weekends, but she'd teach foreign language at a SMS.
Claudia would get really into the art program at Stoneybrook Comm. College, and end up organizing art related events on campus -- ie, gallery nights, special kid activity days, trips to museums in NYC, etc.
Shannon would go to Yale and never be heard from again, unless on a rare Thanksgiving holiday or something. She would become one of the millions of lawyers in Stoneybrook.
Logan would play football on scholarship for the state college. Who knows what he would do afterwards. I really want to say history teacher, but honestly, I can't see him as anything.
Dawn would go to a college in Cali, and end up working as a PR rep for a recycling company, with many business trips to Stoneybrook. She'd even go to the schools and speak at assemblies.

HAHAHA. Stacey would definitely do finance or econ, not engineering. Can you imagine? If she thinks she's too "sophisticated" for the BSC, just imagine her with a department full of nerdy engineering boys. Don't get me wrong, I've dated and befriended my fair share of nerdy engineering boys and love them dearly, but Stacey would be HORRIBLE!!!!

I agree with your assessments, Janey. ;D I can see Kristy maybe being a CEO, though, but you never know. This is interesting to think about and probably hard to predict since I know a lot of kids change their interests from what they are at that age - even if they are "super dedicated" to what they think they want to do, it doesn't always (sometimes but not always) work out that way. That's my experience, at least.

Kristy: She'll join the military and become a drill sergeant so she can boss people around and yell at them for smiling. (I'm going based on my little sis's stories of basic training here) Mary Anne: Will get married young and drop out of college to become a mom. She'll be one of those annoying supermom types who devote their entire lives to their children and have no interests outside of their kids to the point that their husbands feel neglected. Will talk in baby talk to her kids and spoil them rotten in pretty much the same manner that she did with Tigger. Actually she'll view them as pets just like Tigger. Will cry over every milestone they hit. Claudia: Combines her love for art and junkfood and becomes a cake decorator. I can see her with a fancy bakery where she makes gourmet candies and cookies. And fancy wedding cakes like these: www.fancycakesbylauren.com/Stacey: Her love for clothes and her shallow "oh i'm so pretty and sophisticated attitude" will lead her into modeling which will eventually lead to a career in porn when she doesn't hit it big as a model. Besides skinny fluffy haired blondes have a look more suited to porn than runway modeling. Dawn: Full time hiking bum to get away from the polluted and materialistic world and get in touch with the natural world. Will hike the Pacific Crest, Continental Divide and Adirondack trails to get the coveted "triple crown" of hiking. Will never have a real job beyond restaurants and retail to pay for her next six months of hiking. Will post obsessively to trailjournals.com. Abby: Stand up comedien. Most of her routine will be jokes based on the sad lives of her former BSC friends. Of course none of them will ever speak to her again because of this but Abby will not care since someone will finally laugh even if it's just a few drunk people at the club she's at. Jessi: When her ballet career bombs because she is black (or at least this is why Jessi thinks it failed) Stacey will get her a modeling contract. Of course when Jessi becomes a huge hit and Stacey turns into a porno queen the two will never speak again due to Stacey's jealousy. Mallory: Mallory will at last get out her angst but not in the form of writing stories. She and equally angsty sister Vanessa will form a punk rock duo with lyrics based on Vanessa's emo poetry and Mallory's snarky anti-Pike short stories. Mallory will scream out her angst about her strict parents who wouldn't let her wear glitter and sparkles. Angry and oppressed girls who dream of glitter and sparkles will buy all of the girl's music. Mallory will pierce more holes in her body than a slice of swiss cheese has and wear a skimpy but sparkly pleather outfit for all her perfomances.

^Love the Claudia prediction -- oh, and the bad eating habits catch up with her and she ends up going on "The Biggest Loser" and Stacey becomes jealous because Claudia is more famous than her.

Its hard to say. They are only 13 and people change a lot from that age. When I was 13 I wanted to be a lawyer, now I'm going to be a teacher. I cannot see Claudia finishing any schooling. I think she'll be so stoked to graduate high school that she'll just not bother starting college, or will quit early on and I can honestly see her working in retail for quite a while.
Kristy seems the most ambitious. I can see her in grad school, maybe even law school. MA is so responsible, she won't not go to college. I think she could be the one to surprise people with what she chooses to study, though. I can see Dawn doing a lot of volunteering during high school and just landing in some sort of "hippie" field that way, without necessarily going through all the schooling. I'm not sure about Stacey. I don't see her owning her own clothing line or retail stores, it is insanely hard to do that and just because she loves fashion doesn't mean she will be able to do all of that. She does not seem like she has the drive to do all the work it would take to be successful in either of those lines of work. I could see her maybe going into fashion merchandising.
I think Mallory will work for a publishing house. I don't think she'll be a writer, but I think she'd do something in that field. Or maybe she'd work at a newspaper.

Don't get me wrong, I've dated and befriended my fair share of nerdy engineering boys and love them dearly, but Stacey would be HORRIBLE!!!! Hmm, but remember Stacey DOES have a passion for complicated math, even if she's afraid to look "dorky." Remember how enthusiastic she seemed about engineering in Stacey's Movie? Emily goes, "Who would want to be an engineer?" Stacey: "Are you kidding? Engineering is a huge field! You can plan bridges, or you can work on computer things..." blah blah blah. "It's endless!" And then she actually says, "All along I've been thinking I might go into engineering." Have to admit I was even a little surprised by that, since she seems more like a finance-type person for sure. I agree she would probably do that instead, but hey, you never know.... ;D The image of the "oh-so-sophisticated and glamorous" Stacey working with a bunch of engineering guys is actually pretty amusing, I have to admit. ;D But thinking that she for sure wouldn't do it is just stereotyping, I think.

I've always wondered if Claudia, being a Japanese (American) artist, would ever become interested in anime/manga art. Maybe she'd take it and do something really original with it. And she and Mallory got together, they could work on a manga/anime.
Guys, this is what happens when a Baby-Sitters Club fan gets sucked into the anime subculture and tries to incorporate it into her other favorites. it does open up a whole new world of possibility though ;D
On a more regular note, I could see Mary Anne working at a sewing store or a bookstore. Kristy would probably be a good gym teacher.

^ I never thought of MA working at a sewing or bookstore but that is also a possibility. I can definitely see both Kristy and Logan as teachers if Kristy doesn't become a CEO. Actually, I can see them all as teachers - possibly - except Abby and Dawn and maybe Claudia.

Kristy - I could imagine Kristy training to be in the Police Force because she's confident, headstrong and physically fit. She could also study to be a Social Worker as she likes working with kids and working with foster kids could be a challenge for her.
Claudia - She could study anything Art related, like Design, Make-Up Artistry, etc... I think she'll always do Art in some way (e.g. selling her work, etc...) but I was thinking that Claudia could be a good Educational Psychologist. She seems to work well with kids who struggle and face problems with education, such as Shea, Lindsey and Emily, especially as she can relate to them.
Mary Anne - She would study Teaching and work in a primary/elementary school or possibly Counselling, as she's always described as sensitive and a good listener. I could even imagine her studying English as she seemed to love reading (especially her classics like Little Women and Wuthering Heights).
Stacey - She would study Economics, Engineering or Finance. In several of the books, she often expresses a strong interest in the stock market so maybe she'll be a stockbroker, or she could start her own business. I always thought that Stacey was one of the smartest of the BSC members and can never understand why people often make her out to be airheadish.
Dawn - She would study something like Marine Biology or Environmental Studies as she always seemed to be interested in science and of course the environment. I also think she could open up a health food restaurant as she seemed to enjoy cooking and coming up with new health food recipes.
Mallory - I could imagine Mal studying English and Creative Writing. I think she will try to write books but will work in journalism (haha like 'Celeste in the City' ;D) or open her own bookshop.
Jessi - It's hard to tell what will happen with Jessi and her dancing as her body might change as she gets older. So if she doesn't become a ballet professional, she could teach... but I like the idea of her studying a language, like French or Spanish... or maybe even carrying on with sign language and becoming a teacher for deaf children.
Abby - She would do Sports Science or Physiotherapy as sports seemed to be her passion, even more so than Kristy. I could even imagine her continuing with soccer and attempting to go pro or coach.
Logan - I remember him mentioning that he's like to go to Chef School.
Shannon - She would study Law and maybe specialise in Family Law.
