Not to mention the fact that parents are clearly financing any sort of dating before 16 or so. It's just weird to me. You know, I always thought that was weird to. I just don't understand why mothers and fathers would pay for all of this, and in a way encouraging it. I understand allowing your child to 'go out' because they would want to do it more if you told them not to, but it doesn't mean you should give them the money to do it. I wasn't allowed to go out on dates until I was 16. I had a boyfriend when I was 15 who was only allowed to come to my house and me to his, if his mother picked me up and insured my parents she would be at home. Now, I think that was a very good system.

Not to mention the fact that parents are clearly financing any sort of dating before 16 or so. Not if you have a lucrative babysitting business or are a busboy (probably illegally). Duh!

I wasn't allowed to date until I was 16. At the time I thought it was SO unfair, but looking back, I can totally see my parents' point.

My parents chaperoned until 16 (but still had to drive, since NJ license age is 17).
I'm not sure I see it as parents financing dating if a young teenager has an allowance. Allowance money becomes a child's money, no matter what age the child is. A parent might set rules that so much has to be saved, so much given away/tithed, and the rest may be spent or saved as a child sees fit. That spending money is there for just that, spending, whether on a movie, books, skate rental, or whatever. Just my opinion....

I can only imagine Mallory's reaction if the "Men" thing ever started getting around. ;D I can just see the triplets calling Mal and Ben "Men".

Everyone makes fun of the way Ben and Mallory have a fight over how to use the card catalogue. I haven't read the book in awhile but could the fight have actually have been about more than that? It's extremely common for two people to have problems with each other for awhile but finally let loose over something stupid. I did it with my boyfriend last year.

I adore the Mallory/Ben friendship! It's so similar to my best friend and myself when we were that age. I had somewhat of a kiddie-crush on him, but above all we were really close friends (although we'd fight like cat and dog, we had some of the most ridiculous arguments). We hung out at school, we'd go to each other's houses or sometimes the park or the movies on weekends, and we'd talk on the phone or on MSN as often as we could. My first kiss was with him, a little peck on the lips during a game of Truth or Dare when we were 11. We laugh about it now. I guess I imagine the Mallory/Ben friendship as a lot like mine with Chris, I can see them still being friends for years to come and laughing about the silly things they did when they were 11.

Maybe it's just me, but I was always a little weirded out by the fact that they look so much alike. Ben is described pretty much as a female Mallory--reddish hair, freckles, glasses. They sound like brother and sister.

Yeah, that is weird to me too. But not as weird as Ben suddenly turning into a client.

Yeah, but Mallory and Ben were pretty similar and had a lot in common.

I don't think they did have anything in common beyond looking alike.

I think they make a cute couple but I don't see them going anywhere. And for the record, I wasn't allowed to date until I was 16 but I was a rebel and broke the rules a bit
