Come to think of it, her interest does seem to be emphasized as baseball, even though the Krushers are a softball team.

Is there a big difference between baseball and soft ball (besides the size of the ball?) I mean, if someone is really good at one of them would they more than likely be good at the other one? And is it possible that the writers just used the terms interchangably?

I THINK softball was/is supposed to be "baseball" for girls due to the softer ball. It would make sense for the Krushers to use a softer ball, but I wonder why Kristy never tried out for the SMS baseball team. I think she had the ability, and if so, there'd be no reason why she couldn't at least try out.

I think softball pitches have to be underhanded (making them slower). There's also slowpitch softball where the pitcher is on the same team as the batters.

^I think you're right about the underhand pitching. Does the pitcher also stand closer to the batter?

I doubt she would have been allowed to try out for the baseball team since there was a softball team available. You hear about girls on football teams or wrestling because there isn't a girl equivalent team available. And shockingly, in one of Kristy's later books, she says she's not that really that great of a player anyway. With softball there are fewer innings than baseball. I think the dimensions of the field are shrunk down a little. Kind of like how they bring the three point line in a bit closer in women's basketball.

I think she was always expected to be responsible and never had time to freely play sports, and now, too many responsibilities. Was she still on the team in other books?
