^ I never noticed about Mal, either, until I was on here. I don't think AMM necessarily hates her but she does tend to get treated badly. Maybe I'm just focused on it now, though. She's one of my favorites, too, so it makes me feel bad when she seems hated.

^ The evidece does seem to point to Ann hating Mal, hehe.

I really don't know if Ann hates her or if she just can relate to her or wanted to create a character that others can relate to. She doesn't necessarily want bad things to happen to Mal but might recognize that in life, some people are like Mal and always get the short end of the stick. That's how I see it at least. I don't think an author would create a character that they hated, even if she did want to get rid of her that was probably because she didn't think she was popular, etc.

Mal and Jessi were the only real characters. Too bad they were both pretty much shafted story wise.

What are you talking about? Mary Anne got tons of books about her, and she was always in other people's stories, as she was "best friends" with TWO members. Personally, I always wanted less Mary Anne because I thought she was boring and passive aggressive.

^I agree, and it also always bugged me that Mary Anne got the last book in the series. I mean, yeah, ok, her house burnt down, but I always thought that the series should have ended with Kristy.

^How? You were the one who made the statement in the first place that I was disagreeing with. That makes no sense. Are you even reading the threads or are you posting on everything just to post?

The discussion above made me curious about how many books each sitter got, so even though it's probably been brought up before (and sorry for the off-topicness!): Regular series, total 131 books:Kristy: 20 books, or 15.3% MA: 21 books, or 16.0% Claudia: 21 books, or 16.0% Stacey: 21 books, or 16.0% Dawn: 16 books, or 12.2% Mallory: 12 books, or 9.2% Jessi: 13 books, or 9.9% Abby: 7 books, 0r 5.3% Kristy, MA, Stacey and Claud titles had a fairly even distribution throughout the series. Dawn's move back to California meant that beyond #88, she didn't narrate many books; only one more after the final move. Abby's low number comes from her late arrival in the series. Mal and Jessi books were more confusing. Mal began narrating from #14 and Jessi from #16. Their titles followed a relatively consistent pattern from this point, although their jumps were larger than the older girls, and I noticed Mal had bigger jumps (about eight books to Jessi's six- Ann hates Mal, lol?). After #69, Mal was out for a while with mono and then her titles began skipping about ten or eleven books before she went off to boarding school (she narrated only four books after #69). Jessi held on until #82, after which she only narrated two more- 'Happy Holidays, Jessi' and 'Jessi's Big Break' and I have no idea why. It's like they were gradually being eased out of the series. Mysteries, total of 36 books:Kristy: 7 books, or 19.4% MA: 6 books, or 16.7% Claudia: 6 books, or 16.7% Stacey: 7 books, or 19.4% Dawn: 5 books, or 13.9% Mallory: 1 book, or 2.8% Jessi: 1 book, or 2.8% Abby: 3 books, or 8.3% Not much to say here except it's obvious Jessi and Mal were incredibly shafted when it came to mysteries, especially since Abby arrived so late and narrated more than them. Maybe their ages were the reason? Or maybe they weren't as popular as the others? Regular plus mysteries, total of 167 books:Kristy: 27 books, or 16.2% MA: 27 books, or 16.2% Claudia: 27 books, or 16.2% Stacey: 28 books, or 16.8% Dawn: 21 books, or 12.6% Mallory: 13 book, or 7.8% Jessi: 14 books, or 8.4% Abby: 10 books, or 6.0% Conclusion: Mal and Jessi were shafted big time. I'm really surprised Abby had nearly the same amount of books as M/J, since, again, she arrived so late. I guess she had so many in such a short space of time because they were trying to re-interest readers with a new older sitter? (Note: I only included regular and mystery books because I think the super specials didn't really focus too much on a single sitter. Not that that would have helped Mal, since she was the main narrator for a grand total of ZERO super specials.) ... I have too much time on my hands.

Well, she only narrated one more than the others. Maybe it just so happened that they ended the series when Stacey had the most? And since my edits aren't working again, a note: Obviously I didn't take into account a lot of things, like the fact that M/J didn't even join the club until over a dozen books in, but for a general view, I think it's okay?

Why on earth did stacey narrarate the most? She was the most popular member among the fans in general. I could be wrong, but I think she had a lot of books that dealt with non-club and baby-sitting issues, which were also pretty popular among the fans. Poor Mal and Jessi. Especially poor Mal. She's been around for so long and ended up narrating only three books more than Abby! I still kinda wonder why they didn't give the jr. members more mysteries. Sure, theirs were boring, but for most of the mysteries you could put any of the club members as the narrator, and it wouldn't make a difference. They could've given Mal the library mystery or something. Poor, poor Mallory.

I have a tendency to feel for Mal (*points to icon and signature*) I always related to her. I was (and still am ) a nerd who loves to write, with glasses. (lol, I always said that I was most like her in the backs of the later books with the notebook pages, or either that, MA, because I was sensitive, but mostly Mal ) I never thought about Ann hating her but it does seem like everything goes wrong for her (mono, Spaz Girl, having to deal with her father getting fired and sexist teachers and a million siblings needing attention when she was trying to write, etc.) If I had a dollar for every time I've written or said the words "Poor Mallory!" I would be rich lol ;D

Didnt Mal and Jessi only have one mystery book each? I know it was Mal and the Ghost cat and Jessi and the Jewel thieves or something.
