I skim them, but I always like to read the descriptions of Dawn and Mary Anne. And any descriptions of Stacey and Claudia's clothing, of course! I've been giving my neice the Little Sister books to read, and she recently complained to me that in every single book, chapter 2 is the exact same. "I already know Karen is a two-two, why do they have to tell me again!" I thought that was funny.

^ hehe, obviously not well-acquainted with BSC Land yet!
Speaking of Karen's two-twoism, I was at a second hand bookstore and saw a copy of Jacob Two-Two and the Hooded Fang. Ha! Never knew it really existed!

My teacher read it to our class in grade two and I didn't like it much but maybe that's because I had a hard time sitting still. I thought Jacob Two Two was more famous. However, I'm pretty sure it's Canadian so maybe it's more famous in Canada.

It is Canadian. There are also two sequels. The books are by Mordecai Richler, a Great Canadian Author who was much better known for his adult novels.

Chapter two was stupid, especially if you grew up with the series, I mean I could recite it all in my sleep.

^I agree. Besides the large print, one of the most startling things about the FF books is the lack of a chapter two!

I skim them. I'm glad that the FF ones don't have that chapter 2 lol

I was put off by FF not having a chapter 2 as well when I first read them. They have the little descriptions at the very beginning, but it's not even in the story. I think it's so weird. It really does make the book feel a bit incomplete!

I was so confused by the few FF books I read, since I hadn't read much from the end of the regular series and early FF books, so I had no idea what was going on or what had happened to the other members. The dinky paragraphs in the cover only told me stuff I did know. So yeah, chapter twos would have been great there.
Some authors are able to integrate backstory into the story pretty smoothly...this series isn't one of them. Pretending they could would have been just as annoying.

^ California Diaries managed to integrate backstory into the books pretty well, I thought. Although I guess you didn't get (extensive) character descriptions like in the BSC books.

Yeah, it must have been pretty hard to integrate so much backstory into a book. But I guess it could have been done better.
"My name is Kristy Thomas, I live with my Mom and stepfather Watson and my siblings. I belong to the Babysitters' Club along with six of my closest friends. We all go to Stoneybrook Middle School. "
"My name is Mary-Anne Spier, I live with my Dad and stepmother, Sharon and my stepsister Dawn. Dawn and I both belong to the Babysitters Club along with five of our other friends. "
"My name is Mallory Pike. I have seven brothers and sisters including triplets. I belong to the Babysitters club etc"
I don't think it would be necessary to introduce everyone's siblings and family unless it was necessary to the story which it isn't always. In a Jessi book where no-one ever sits for Karen, Andrew, David Michael and Emily Michelle there isn't any reason that they need to be mentioned.

That's true, but I guess you can't leave anyone's sibling or family out.
