I never thought about that. There was even a Hispanic character in the Sweet Valley series, although they only stayed for one book. You can't distract from the power of blondes, I guess.
A Hispanic character for the BSC would've been interesting.

^ haha, don't forget that lila and the rest of the ~sorority~ told her that they would "overlook" the fact that she was mexican!

It occurred to me that Rosa, Claudia's tutor in Middle School Dropout, may have been Latina...her name ("Rosa" is Spanish) and her physical description have me thinking it's a possibility.

i've been thinking about this, and i think the perkins family is latino/hispanic. (i don't know what the difference is :] ) assuming myriah is pronounced maria, the girls all have latin-sounding names (gabby being short for gabriella, and then laura), and they have been described as having dark hair. plus we don't know what mrs perkins' maiden name is.

Since I'm crazy enough to have read Ann's bio ;D I know that Beth's maiden name is McKeever and Gabbie's full name is Gabrielle -- the Perkinses were based on Ann's childhood best friend's family. Also I think the girls are blonde-haired when they first appear in the books?

maybe i need to read the biography :] i do know in snowbound there is a picture of claudia sitting for the girls and they have dark hair. (maybe it's because the power was out, but still.) i just always assumed they were latino/hispanic because of their names, but if her name is gabrielle instead of gabriella, who knows.

I drive past it on my way to work sometimes and it always sticks out to me as being familiar for some reason I can't place. I Googled it awhile ago and the notable results were the residence of a mathematician and a couple of books written by AMM. Since it's an actual street in Princeton I thought maybe it was somewhere in the bio. I don't know where my copy of it is or I'd look myself

Dodds Lane is the name of chapter 4! It was apparently very Stoneybrook-ish back when Ann lived on it.

OMG Ann LIVED there?! I feel like Mallory discovering Henrietta Hayes lived in Stoneybrook.

I found another one! Very minor character--Dr. Rivera, who takes off Claudia's cast in Bad Joke.

There was Kathleen Lopez, the girl that made the cheerleading squad over Stacey.

While the two terms are sometimes used interchangeably, "Hispanic" is a narrower term which only refers to persons of Spanish-speaking origin or ancestry, while "Latino" is more frequently used to refer more generally to anyone of Latin American origin or ancestry, including Brazilians. "Hispanic" thus includes persons from Spain and Spanish-speaking Latin Americans but excludes Brazilians, while "Latino" excludes persons from Spain but includes Spanish-speaking Latin Americans and Brazilians.

Thankfully I've become a little bit more sensitive in the five years (wow!) since I wrote that. And when you look at the words and understand a little bit about geography, it's actually pretty easy. So thanks!

There was the Martinezes in Mary Anne and the Silent Witness. Luke (6/7?) and Amelia (3) who was only used in that one book.
