Well for me personally it was when I was 7 or 8 years old and first read Mary Anne's Makeover and Mary Anne said she "felt like a big dam about to burst". Because not only did I assume "d**n" was spelled "Dam", but I also apparently thought it was a noun. I asked my mom about it and I was really embarrassed (obviously since I still remember it 14 years later). When I first started re-reading the books I was shocked whenever the BSC members acted bitchy to one another because in my memory they where the best friends who "never fight".

The car accident in Jessi and the Troublemaker! I couldn't believe Danielle did that. The other stuff she does in that book, like filling up a shower to make a pool, is typically mischievous, but I would never have even THOUGHT of driving a car at her age. I used to drive my grandpa's car (usually he and my grandma rode along with me) in his field all of the time when I was about 8. I also used to drive my dad's truck up and down our driveway when I was that age too, but we don't live in a city. I did take grandpa's car with a friend and go cruising around the field without him once (he was watching from the window and luckily wasn't too mad) when I was 10. But agree it was surprising to see Danielle take the car with friends the way she did in a BSC book. When did they use the word "fart"? I must have missed that along with the sexy reference. Guess I need to read more carefully

^ In "Dawn and Too Many Sitters," one of the triplets says it, and David Michael does, too, at some point in the series.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one that was somewhat shocked to read the word fart in a BSC book!
The makeout scene is defiantly up there with me as one of the most shocking moments.

wait... kristy makes out with Bart!?!? ooh, that's scandalous! I can't believe I haven't read this one! I'd have never thought there'd be a make-out scene in a BSC book...what book did this take place in?

David Michael uses the word "fart" in #24 Kristy and the Mother's Day Surprise, because he's singing, "The Addams Family started / When Uncle Fester farted," but Kristy or someone cuts him off. Which is a good thing, since I happen to know that the next line of that parody is The kids were all retarded, and "farted" and "retarded" are a bit much to appear in one BSC book!
I was shocked by Mary Anne kidding around and saying that Jessi's newly pierced ears were "pretty sexy" in Mallory and the Trouble with Twins. Even at the age of eight, I wasn't shocked by the word "sexy," but I was shocked that it was in a BSC book, since they're so, uh, wholesome, and I was shocked that out of all the characters, it was Mary Anne who said it! (Well, at least it wasn't Richard. Now, that would have been freaky.)
I was also REALLY shocked when Dawn used her dad's credit card to book a flight from California to Connecticut and took off without telling anybody. If I were her parents, I would have grounded her for about a million years after that, and she so would have had to pay me back the money she stole.

maddie, they make out a few times in that book, but the one that everyone keeps mentioning is when she's home alone babysitting and he comes over to "watch the baseball game." MHMM! They get caught by Watson, and Kristy is SO busted. lilafowler gave a hilarious recap over in the Kristy + Bart = ? thread.

I'd forgotten about the Kristy+Bart recap by Lila Doesn't surprise me that DM is the one who says "fart" I can totally picture him and the triplets using that word but am pretty surprised it was actually in a BSC book. Not nearly as surprised about using retarded because that didn't seem like that big of issue back in the 80s. Ah, the days before so much "political correctness" with all phrases, before Jessi became "African American" instead of black... : I'm going off topic here, sorry. Surprising that there are many more shocking moments than I realized.

Oh I forgot about Dawn taking the CC, I guess cause I think I've only read that book once (which one is it in?). I was seriously shocked by that as well!

Okay I think I just had another "shocking" moment. I was just reading my first ever "Friends Forever" book Stacey and the boyfriend trap And After spending the day with Stacey Toby says something like "I had fun even though We didn't do anything" And Stacey's just all "WTF?" wondering what he means by that. Maybe I'm just reading WAY to much into what "do anything" means, but it made me do a double take.

^ I'm fairly sure he meant anything as in activities (movies, dinner, ect), not anything as in...other stuff. I could see it going either way, though!
