I think when I found out that Mary Anne's house burnt down was very shocking...and also (although I expected it to happen) Sunny's mother in actually dying of the cancer.

^ Both of these shocked (and depressed ) me, too. They seemed like weightier issues than usual for the BSC, though I know Mimi does die. But that was kind of expected, at least for me.

I think you guys already took all of the ones that I was going to say. Some tamer ones were Charlotte made that "wee wee" urine joke in the one where Stacey house sits for them. And when the BSC had that childish spat when babysitting for the Newtons. The one I really thought was kind of out there for some reason was when the BSC declared "war" on Betsy Sobak. I was like, "what?"

I think when I found out that Mary Anne's house burnt down was very shocking...and also (although I expected it to happen) Sunny's mother in actually dying of the cancer. I felt the same way. When Sunny's mother died, I cried out loud. It was such a sad moment. I also cried when that Amelia( Amalia?) died in that car accident. That was such a sad book.

They were really intense about it! They were very detailed in my opinion. I actually had to put the book down a few times because it was so sad.

I was shocked by a lot of these moments too. One that I don't think has been mentioned yet is when Dawn snoops through the Lazar's mail (In Dawn's Book) and finds out that their daughter is going to have to repeat second grade. Then Dawn accidentally tells the girl who tells her parents. I would be so mortified if that happened to me (although I wouldn't be looking through other people's mail in the first place). I cringe every time I read that part.

^ Oh, that made me feel so badly for the little girl. I didn't think it was so horrible that Dawn snooped (I'm awful, I know ;D) but that she blurted out what she had found. If you're going to "spy", at least be a little sneaky about it. I had forgotten about this happening. I can't say it exactly shocked me but I did feel sorry for the girl.

I always wondered why Dawn didn't play that off as a mistake on her part -- "Oh, you're right, you just finished second grade, you aren't going into second grade!"

^ I wondered that too. I thought she could have at least tried to cover better but maybe she was so shocked by what she had done. It's been a while since I've read this one so I'll have to reread.

^ Maybe because it would have sort of been dishonest and they are such wholesome kids that lying like that (in a roundabout way) would not have occurred to them to do? Just kidding.

She did try to cover up her mistake, but she actually told the girl, "And doing second grade over is going to be a big help." So, even though she tried to cover it up, there was really no logical way to recover from that. Plus, the little girl knew she wasn't doing well, and I have a feeling she knew something was going on and this just confirmed her suspicions, so she wouldn't have believed Dawn anyway....or maybe not....I don't really know.

^ Telling her that doing second grade over would help seems like it actually would confirm that Dawn knew she had to repeat and might even make the girl feel worse (if that makes sense). Agree, though, that the girl probably wouldn't have believed Dawn anyway. Those people never called the BSC again, did they? ;D (that wasn't in CA, right?)

The most shocking moment for me (so far) was when I read Claudia's book at 7 or 8. And Claud discovers there is no Tooth Fairy/Easter Bunny/SANTA etc aren't real. I was SHOCKED!!!!! I ran down and asked Mum, who confirmed it. That was the day I lost my innocence, thanks Claud!
