Wow, there were several moments that shocked me: Kristy & Bart's make-out session, Dawn stealing the credit card, and Stacey's "bad girl" friends sneaking alcohol into the concert. I was like, "What the...." They're 13!

Yeah the alcohol thing surprised me as well. I mean at 15 and 16 I could see that def happening but 13 seems awfully young. I know kids "grow up" faster now but still...

^ Totally agree about being shocked about the credit card, make-out session, and especially the alcohol. It's sad that kids do grow up so fast (and seem to keep growing up faster). I like to read the BSC for the innocence and these things kind of seemed to go against that.

a girl in my sister's first-grade class was caught french-kissing a boy under a table.

^ That is so cute! Reminds me of when the triplets were trying to get Derek Masters to kiss Vanessa.

^ A little kiss is one thing but french kissing??? That's too much even for me ;D I also liked the scene with the Pikes and Derek and how he had to admit that he had never kissed a girl. That's one of my favorite parts of The Mystery at Claudia's House. I always found it quite realistic (from my experiences when I was a kid at least. Now though.....)

I couldn't really find the alcohol thing shocking, because, I mean, they brought wine to the concert in bottles small enough to fit in their socks. That doesn't say "shocking" or "badass" to me; it just says "lame."
I know there were kids at my junior high who drank, even if the people I personally knew didn't start drinking until we were about sixteen. But I never heard of anybody when I was growing up who stole their dad's credit card and used it to take off to, say, Vancouver.

I don't understand why the GW had them bring in wine. I mean WTH. They opened a bottle of wine, poured some into a container small enough to fit in their SOCK and then put it back? Yeah that's not obvious at all. It makes no sense. Then again, this was the age of "flop socks" so maybe the fit a lot of wine in their gigundo socks.

In any case it was apparently enough for the girls to get the giggles and Sheila to start acting rowdy.

The most shocking moment of lack thereof was when Kristy formed the BSC. When I read the book, I was expecting some spectacular thing only to find out that her "great idea" was just forming the BSC because the series didn't just start out with it. But then I was happy that she did.

How could the creation of the club be shocking? Doesn't the back of the book somehow clue you in?
