I guess you could try to find her biography. That might have the most information on her.

^ Thanks. Is there an actual entire book on her or just info on the Scholastic site? I haven't checked that out yet so should go there first.

There's an actual book written on her. I'm not sure who wrote it though.

^ Thanks. I had no idea there was a whole book on her. I'll have to see if I can find it, too.

I wonder if it's very good. I like to read biographies but find that a lot of them are really boring.

Ann's life has always seemed really boring to me. I still want to read the biography though. I recall on another thread a quote about how when she ruptured her spleen, her "womanly form" was just started to develop so I feel like it would be wonderful if only for the snark value.

^ I'm not all that interested in her, either, but am curious about some of the basics, like what kind of family background she had. Maybe it would give me some insight into why she used some of the trends that she did in her books. The snark value might be high, too ;D

greer, I went and looked up AMM's womanly form for you (Ann was eleven when this accident occurred):
Ann was beginning to have a beautiful, hourglass figure around that time, but the operation left a big, vertical scar up her stomach. Ann's father said it looked like a night crawler -- one of those extra long worms. Everyone was very proud that Ann continued to wear two-piece bathing suits when they went away to the beach that summer. Many years later, Ann's cousin Margaret had an operation that left a big scar on her own stomach. Aunt Adele held Ann up as a role model and example.
I just spent a little time flipping through the book, and apparently the author is one of Ann's friends. It's not too hard to figure that out if you miss the part where she mentions it; a lot of the anecdotes used to inform the reader of how fabulous Ann is are pretty eyeroll-inducing. There's one about how some girl stole a paper Ann wrote in high school because the girl didn't want Ann to hand in something so good (the first thing that went through my mind was that telling your teacher that your paper was stolen would have been a great excuse before personal computers). The biography also talks about how Ann and her friends spent weekends on Fire Island -- sitting on the beach, playing cards, reading -- and were so "exhausted from playing so hard" that they fell asleep on the train home.

The biography is really boring, IMO. There's an entire chapter dedicated to Ann's volunteer work, and I couldn't bring myself to read it. The book is very rah rah Ann, isn't she wonderful? enough as it is, I couldn't be bothered to read how marvellous she is for volunteering so much. I felt bad and very judgmental afterwards, but I snickered a little at the stories about how when Ann and her friends were in university, they would stay up late and send for take-out food when they were feeling "extra wild."

Not too much longer than a BSC book, when you consider that the print is larger (in my copy) and there are pictures.

^ Yup! It took me a couple of hours to get through it, mainly because it wasn't completely holding my interest. But it's an easy read for sure.

On another note, Ann has this things for redheads: Mallory, the Hobarts, the Rodowskys, and Rosie Wilder. I live in a big city, and I rarely see people with red hair walking around.
Is this because of Ann's obsession with Lucille Ball?
