It's true we tend to take our emotions our on our closest friends and family, I think maybe part of the reason alot of people are saying MA is because they dont expect it from her.

I think Claudia and Stacey can be.

I agree they all had their moments, which is what made them "real" to me. After reading all the books, Abby and Dawn are still my least favorites. A because she not only makes fun of people but unlike Kristy who I am holding out on believing she has a good heart just bigger mouth at times, A really seemed plain mean a lot of the time and/or a show-off. Dawn, I've spoken my piece about her in the Disappearing Dogs and Dawn's vegeterianism threads.
I agree that in retrospect, "sweet wouldn't hurt a fly" MA was anything but at times. With her there were more instances where I got the impression that she stewed for a long time, bubbling up her anger, not sharing her feelings or being a "peace-maker" only to all of a sudden lash out in an angry rage.

I chose Dawn for this. She seems to create a lot of drama. You could argue that she's as much of a drama queen as Mary Anne, if not more. For example, flying to the other side of the country just because she doesn't want Jack to marry Carol? What ever happened to her respect for Carol from California Girls?

^I say snotty, rude stuff to my family and close friends that I would never say to an acquaintance. They're my loved ones. They have to like me even when I'm the biggest brat in the world. ;D I think it's healthy to butt heads with the people you're closest to. It's not like the club members constantly ganged up on one person or bullied anyone. They just had the kind of stupid arguments you have with people you are completely comfortable with. True, I know I am like that at times.

I recently read Mary Annes Makeover, and man, Dawn is snotty in that one. She is getting my vote the more books I reread...

^ That's one of the reasons Dawn got my votes. Another reason is because she purposely goes out of her way to make others feel bad.

i agree! dawn is by far the meanest. the books always talk about how laid back she is, but she is SO preachy! she won't let kids play guns because she doesn't like them (no word on how the parents feel), she is constantly saying things like "ew, greasy pig carcasses!" while other people are eating, and plus there is a whole book about how she preaches. she plays the victim -- instead of admitting to MA that she was wrong about sharing a room, she decided to scare the poo out of MA so that she would be forced to leave. and (like someone else said) instead of being happy for her dad about his engagement, she charges a freaking plane ticket to her dad's credit card because "he wasn't there for her" during her stay. maybe the reason dawn is so down on other people's relationships (the whole plane ticket thing, the spying thing, etc) is because she can't get her own boyfriend. haha, she even has a whole book about THAT too.

I think Dawn is annoying too but I have to defend her here. Although she had no right to fly across the country using her parents money, I dont blame her for getting upset. I would have been mad too. A lot of kids like their parents girlfriends/ boyfriends but when the girlfriends/boyfriends become fiancees, it is war.

^ I can understand Dawn getting upset but like you said, she shouldn't have flown across the country. I don't see how anyone can defend her doing that by saying that her actions could be defended because she was upset.

I think it's weird that people are saying Mary Anne... when she's one of the overtly *nicest* sitters. So I would have to disagree with Mary Anne. If you're saying Kristy doesn't mean to be mean or bitchy, the same should apply for Mary Anne.

^Kristy also doesn't throw mugs, ditch her childhood best friend and to a lesser extent, other friends, (for Dawn in MA's case), or passive aggressively stew/react. I really don't think there was much "sweet" about MA. she had moments, but overall, her description of being the "nicest, best friend, etc" of all the sitters doesn't fly for me at all.

Just came across this gem from dawn about Mal - It seems to me, though, that Mal has so much personality that when you look at her you see someone you like, so she looks good.

I don't think any of the babysitters are mean at all. They ALL had their b*tchy moments. However, I'd say MA and Dawn are the b*tchiest.
Although MA is supposed to be "sensitive", the books don't really show it. She is extremely passive-aggressive. There are a huge number of b*tchy things she does--practically ditches her childhood best friend, calls Dawn fat, accuses Claudia of cheating, isn't very nice to Jeff in Dawn's Family Feud, etc. And she did a lot more insensitive things.
Dawn is a lot b*tchier than MA, IMO. She makes fun of people who eats meat, is passive-aggressive about the environment, doesn't allow the Barretts to play with toy guns only because SHE is against toy guns, doesn't even admit that she and MA should share a room so she scares MA out of the room, doesn't even care that she is creating drama and chaos for constantly moving from coast to coast, is really b*tchy to MA in MA's Makeover, etc. And there are PLENTY of more b*tchy Dawn moments.
Whew! Ok, I'm done ranting. As you can probably tell, I really hate Dawn. MA is a b*tch but I still like her. She is hilarious and she does have a couple of sweet moments.

I'd say the meanest babysitters in order are Dawn, Mary Anne, and Stacey.
Dawn is overly emotional and impulsive. I liked her up till Dawn's Wicked Stepsister (maybe her step family made her meaner). She is too stuck-up about her vegetarian and environmental ways. I'm not against vegetarians and environmentalists, but really, she could be nicer about it. Also in a lot of chapter 2s, when she says how her friends thinks she's beautiful with her perfect hair and skin, she says that maybe they'd have shiny hair and good skin if they didn't pig out on junk food all the time. Seriously, Dawn.
Mary Anne is portrayed as sweet and sensitive, and she was in the earlier books, like the first twenty or so books. She became awful starting in the Great Romance and Wicked Stepsister. She can be awfully snide, passive-aggressive, overemotional, impulsive at times, and, ugh, she was so not sweet and sensitive.
Stacey, for the most part, is nice. But imo she is a snob and very stuck-up. Yet she is one of my favorite sitters, anyway.
Kristy isn't mean, really, just really blunt.
I'd say Claudia, Mallory, and Jessi are the least b*tchiest. And Abby? Tbh, I don't care at all about her.
