I never thought of that before. If I were an author, I think i'd be more flattered than anything about someone writing fanfic about my work.

LOL, is what we say about the BSC really flattering though I love fanfics...they're keeping the baby sitters alive Grr...this has made me really want to go and start reading more of the fanfictions...reading them worries me...I tend to get unhealthy obsessions with people stories.

Me too. Back when Lioness Black was actively writing in the fandom, Blanket Apologist and I used to basically harass her every day about updating. I'm sure she wanted to slap us. Now I'm quite obsessed with "The Way Things Were" but I'm trying not to pester Chelz22 too much.
This fandom is addicting.

I'm reading the BFF or whatever one right now, about Stacey in her senior year. It's good, but part of the reason I like it a lot is because it's not so much a parody. I don't like all the ones that completely just make fun of and exaggerate everything BSC. I don't think they're very well written, nor do I find them particularly creative or funny. This is the only fan fic I've gotten into, ever. Do you guys have any suggestions of ones that either aren't such blatant parodies or, if they all are parodies, some that are the best? I feel so picky, lol. Example, I read the one about Mal going to college and didn't like it. It made me defensive of poor Mallory!

Viva Las BSC! is my favorite parody, with Amsterdam! Amsterdam! a close second. I just like VLBSC! better because if you aren't reading too carefully, it could seriously pass for an actual BSC book. Amsterdam! Amsterdam! is more out there but both stories are funny without just being "LOL CLAUDIA CAN'T SPELL AND MARY ANNE IS CRYING ROFL ROFL ROFL WE R SO FUNNY"
I know I asked the original question, but I feel I have now read enough fanfic to answer. I am getting sooo into Meant to Be on ff.net!

Ah, I keep checking FF.net for updates on Most Likely to Succeed, Meant to Be, The Way Things Were, and Before We Grow up. I feel like my life has been overtaken by these stories!
And sadly...it's becoming hard to distinguish between what really happend in the books and what happend in the fan fics!

Three Flights Down by Sweet Apocalypse seems promising. Have you read Viva Las BSC!? I wouldn't classify it as a parody, but rather more of a humor story. It reads very much like a regular Super Special. Most parodies aren't very funny, in any fandom. People try too hard. Subtle humor is the most effective.

(reposting this from the other fanfic thread because I didn't know this one existed!)
I just read BFF, which is my first fanfic ever. I have to say, it messed with my mind so much! I was just reading the Cokie Mason thread, and I wanted to reply with "Omg remember what happened to Cokie at Emily's birthday party?! That was crazy!" But.. oh yeah.. that didn't happen in an actual BSC book. ;D

You should read Most Likely to Succeed, too. It's in the same time line as BFF, and it's awesome. It gets better with each chapter.

I find both BFF and most likely to succeed very inspiring. They make me want to create my own high school bsc universe.

One of my favorite fanfics right now is The Reality Of The Situation by chelz22. It's about the Pike family. There's not much action and no dialogue, it's more of a character study of each Pike kid following a shocking announcement by Mr. and Mrs. Pike. Each chapter is very insightful and well-written. It's a lot different from the other stories on ffn.

What does everyone think of Blue? It's my favorite of all BSC fanfics. I know it's slash, which turns some people off but there's also some funny digs at the books like this line narrated by Jeff:
"Oh," Sara said when we pulled up, in this funny little voice, like one you might use if you were expecting your sister to get you some imported surfboard wax for your birthday, but you end up getting a book on fun recycling tips instead. (Not that I know from personal experience or anything.)
I can see Dawn doing that! Or when Jeff explores Mary Anne's room and finds condoms and cupcakes. The writing is excellent and the story is realistic (like the social scene and the way guys act around each other). Even though it gets annoying (especially because it's not updated often) I really like the way the relationship between Jeff and Byron moves so slowly. It allows me to really root for them. And it paid off! The end of chapter 10, when they finally admit their feelings for each other is one of the most romantic things I've ever read

i like blue. The story is really good and well-written even if I am not a fan of slash in general.
