I just re read this book not too long ago, and it was really sad. Sunny was going through a rough time, and Sunny's diaries tend to make me sad, but I enjoy them.

I read this too. (I got the kindle versions of all the CD books.) I like this a lot better than Dawn's. I thought it was really sad what Sunny was going through her mom's cancer obviously, the heirlooms (so sad but understandable when she broke that music box!), and her attempted escape from home. I didn't really like Sunny from Dawn's Diary 1 but I loved her in this book.

I like Sunny best, but this is my least favourite of her books. Carson just seems such a massive cliche, and this is the start of the slide into Judgemental!Dawn.

Wow, somehow this one was MUCH sadder than I remember it being (I just re-read it after... 7ish years). It feels much more serious than Dawn's first book and is a better example of what you're getting into while reading this series. Sunny is a much more sympathetic narrator than Dawn too. The ending is powerful in the way that there ISN'T a traditional ending; she's back where she started, but worse.
I'm kind of not loving Mr. Winslow, but I can see his perspective too. Maybe I'll change my mind in the other 2 Sunny diaries. I often don't love characters that are workaholic parents who are emotionally distant (hence why I don't like Mr. McGill), but I think his case is different and more of a coping skill.
