Chapter 1 Hello! My name is Karen Brewer and I am in the second grade at Stoneybrook Elementary school in Ms. Colman's class. Ms. Colman is my teacher and she's very, very nice. She hardly ever yells. I looked at the clock. 2:15. In fifteen minutes school will be over. Hurray! I love school, but I could hardly wait for Friday. Friday the start of the big house month and I get to see everyone. But best of all, Kristy, my big stepsister is taking me, Nancy and Hannie, the Three Musketeers hiking on Saturday. I could not wait. To my right Ricky Torres was doodling a Pikachu on his paper. I guess he was bored too. Ricky is my pretend husband. We got married on the playground one day. To my left was Natalie Springer. I like Natalie even though she talks with a lisp and has doopy socks. Some of the other kids tease Natalie. Pamela Harding, my best enemy is one of those kids. She and her best friends Leslie and Jannie are gigundo meanies. I sighed. Come on school, be over! The Three Musketeers need to start their weekend! Guess what? Nancy and Hannie are spending the night on Saturday too. So you can see why I cannot wait for this weekend to start. Also I get to see Daddy and Elizabeth. I missed them. Big House months are always so much fun! As I was thinking about the big house, the bell rang. Yes! I quickly got my things and got ready to start my big house weekend.

Chapter 2
Of course you all are wondering what I mean when I say "Big House weekend" and I, Karen Brewer am going to tell you. It all started when Mommy and Daddy lived together and they started having arguments. Soon they announced they were getting divorced but they still loved my brother Andrew and I. Andrew is four going on five. He goes to preschool and he loves it. He has a very nice teacher named Mrs. Jewel. So Andrew and I started living with Mommy and seeing Daddy every other weekend. Mommy met a man named Seth Engle and she married him. Now he's my stepdaddy. He bought his dog Midgie and cat Rocky. They are my stepdog and stepcat. But guess what? Daddy met a woman named Elizabeth. Daddy married her and she's my stepmommy. I also have a stepsister, Kristy, whom I already mentioned. She's gigundoly cool, she has this club called the Baby Sitters Club. I also have 3 stepbrothers, David Michael is seven like me and sometimes can be a pain. Sam is fifteen and Charlie is seventeen. They are in highschool. Charlie even has a car called the Junk Bucket. I also have an adopted sister named Emily Michelle. I named my rat Emily Junior after her. Nannie is my stepgrandmother who takes care of Emily Michelle. She has a chocolate business and I help her with it sometimes. Nannie is so cool. She drives a pink car and bowls. There are also pets at the big house. Andrew and I have two fish, my fish is Crystal Light the Second, and Andrew's is Goldfishie. We also have a black kitten named Pumpkin and a puppy named Shannon. Shannon belongs to David Michael who named her after Kristy's friend Shannon. Now you see why I love going to the big house. There is always something going on and Andrew and I started missing the big house. We were very unhappy so Mommy and Daddy talked to their lawyers and arranged it so we spend one month at the Little House and one month at the Big House. I got on the bus with Hannie and we started talking about our sleepover. This was exciting!

Chapter 3 Hello everyone! I shouted as I got home. Hi Karen! Everyone came to greet me. Hello Professor! David Michael greeted me. David Michael calls me Professor because of my glasses. I wear pink ones all the time, but I need to wear some for reading so i switch to my blue pair. David Michael does not mean this in a mean way. He says it makes me look smart. Hi honey! Daddy smiled and hugged me. As soon as everything settled down, I put my things in my room. I said hello to Moosie and Tickly. Moosie is my stuffed cat who stays at the big house. Goosie is his twin and stays at Mommy's. I also have two Tickly, my special blanket. I had to rip Tickly in half so I could keep a Tickly at each house. I cannot sleep if I do not have Tickly. Tickly understands and did not mind being ripped into two. I sat on my bed. Tomorrow is the Three Musketeer's hiking day. I told Moosie. Moosie was excited. Now, Moosie, what should I wear tomorrow? I went to my closet to think. I shall wear this pink shirt and these brown shorts and my hiking boots. and a yellow ribbon in my hair too. I announced to Moosie. Suddenly, I had a great idea. The Three Musketeers must all wear the same thing! We can be triplets! I had to go tell Hannie. I went downstairs. I am going to Hannie's! I called to Elizabeth and I went out the door. Hannie lives right across the street from me. I went into Hannie's room and told her the idea. Hannie thought it was a good one. Hannie had hiking boots, pink shirt and brown shorts. We called up Nancy and told her. But Nancy did not have any brown shorts. Her shorts were blue. Boo and bullfrogs. Suddenly, I had a better idea. I asked Nancy if she had the ribbon and shirt and she did. I asked Hannie if she had blue shorts and she did! I told them that they could be twins and I could be Kristy's twin. TWO sets of twins! That's even better! Nancy and Hannie liked my idea a lot. We could hardly wait for tomorrow. I said goodbye to Hannie and went home.

Chapter 4 When I got home Kristy was back from her BSC meeting. Hi Karen! she greeted me. Hi! I replied. I told her about my idea. Kristy grinned and said she'd dress alike. Hurray! I love my big stepsister. Most big stepsisters would not be as fun as Kristy. I am so gigundo lucky to have a cool big stepsister. Elizabeth and Daddy had dinner ready so we all sat down to eat. Daddy asked all how our day was. I told him about my great idea. Daddy said it was a good one. Elizabeth thought so too. Andrew told us about how his class had punch and cake because it was someones birthday. Sam and Charlie talked about their upcoming football games and David Michael had a new play he was in. I started playing with my fork. It seemed like forever, but dinner was over and then soon it was time for bed. Kristy came in to read to me. We started a new book called Ramona Quimby, Age 8. I liked it it alot. Kristy said we will read a chapter a night. Kristy kissed me goodnight and I laid in bed thinking about tomorrow.

Chapter 5 Wow I must have fallen asleep because I had awoken up the next day. Hurray! it is Saturday! I quickly got out of bed and took a shower and got dressed. I met Kristy down stairs who was also dressed like me. Double hurray! She was making peanut butter sandwiches for us. I helped her by getting apples and carrots out of the fridge for us. Guess what? Elizabeth got gatorade for us. Kristy says its good to drink it because when people do lots of exercise it is good for them to drink. Lots of exercise? This made me feel gigundoly grown up! I only see grown ups drink gatorade. Charlie drove Kristy and I to Nancy's. (We got Hannie along the way) and then he took us to the Stoneybrook hiking trail. Charlie was going to pick us up later, he was not hiking with us. The Three Musketeers and Kristy hiked for a long long time. The Three Musketeers talked about a lot of things. Kristy did not seem very happy for some reason. She looked cross. I wondered what was the matter. Maybe she was just tired. It was very hot outside today. Maybe we should eat now. I said. I thought then Kristy could rest and maybe she would not look so cross. That seemed to work because after we ate our lunch and drank our gatorades Kristy seemed better. She even started to tell us jokes and point out things about nature and the plants on the trail. I am glad I could make Kristy feel better. But on the way back, Charlie was late. Kristy was not happy. Where IS he? Can't he be on time for ONCE in his life?! That ***hole! Kristy tapped her foot angrily and sighed heavily. Hannie and Nancy and I looked at each other. Kristy said a bad word! We have never heard her say that! Um, Kristy? I asked timidly What?! She spoke a little sharply and I stopped talking. I was shocked that she seemed angry at me as well. I um, have to go to the bathroom. I said. Oh. Well, alright. Kristy took us to the bathroom and the Three Musketeers used it and we washed our hands. Kristy was taking a long time. She kept muttering stuff like "Oh great." and "I don't f**k**g believe it" Hannie's eyes got round and Nancy looked scared. Come on guys, lets go wait outside . I whispered. We went outside. What's wrong with Kristy? Why is she angry all of a sudden and saying bad words? Hannie asked me. I do not know. I hope we did not make her mad. I said. I do not think we made her mad. Nancy said. But Nancy still looked like she was going to cry at any moment. This is all Charlie's fault. If he came on time, Kristy would not have said those bad words. Nancy said. No it is not Charlie's fault, and Kristy should not say those bad words. Hannie said to her. I agree. Charlie should not be called a...um...you know. I said. I could not bear to say that word, I was scared Kristy might hear me repeat the word. It seemed like forever, but Kristy emerged from the bathroom. She looked angry and cross. She stalked past us and we followed. By then Charlie was there in the Junk Bucket. Kristy started yelling at him for not being on time. Charlie apologized and we all drove back to the big house. I was scared. The Three Musketeers needed to time to talk!

Chapter 6 The Three Musketeers needed to talk. So we came in my room and closed the door tightly. What do you think was wrong today? Hannie whispered. I think she hates us. Nancy said. I do not know why but last time I was here Kristy got mad. She yelled at Daddy and she yelled at Shannon because Shannon was in her way. I am scared. Hannie said. Do not worry. Maybe Charlie has been being mean to Kristy. Maybe he called HER those bad words, so she is calling HIM them now to get back at her. I said. We looked glum. We did not feel like playing with the Doll Sisters and we not sure what to do. I think we should play Lovely Ladies. I said. We did not feel happy but playing LovelyLadies always cheers us up. So we went to the play room and started playing. Soon we got very loud and started using outdoor voices. We did not really mean to make so much noise, but we kind of started doing so anyway. Kristy came to the door. 'KAREN BREWER! HOW MANY TIMES MUST YOU BE TOLD TO USE YOUR INDOOR VOICE? SHUT UP! FOR ONCE IN YOUR LIFE CAN'T YOU BE QUIET? OR IS THAT TOO MUCH WORK FOR YOU, YOU LITTLE BRAT!?" Tears filled my eyes. I ran out of the room. Nancy and Hannie followed me out side to the garden. I kept running and tripped over the stupid dress I was wearing. I started to cry. Hannie and Nancy helped me up. Why does Kristy hate me? I sobbed. She does not love me anymore! Hannie put her arm around me. I do not want to go back inside the house. I sobbed. Daddy came out side to talk to us. Girls, Kristy is feeling a little sick. She did not mean to yell, she just has been feeling sick all day. Elizabeth took her out for a while. Sick? Does she need a doctor? I asked. Well, she is getting some things that will help her. Daddy told me. He gave me a hug. Anyway, I thought that maybe it would be better if you guys had your sleepover at Hannie's. Mrs Papendakis said it was already when I asked her. I wiped my eyes. I want to go now. I announced. I do not want to be here with Kristy. She hurt my feelings and she was rude to Charlie. Daddy looked at me sternly. Do not be so mean to Kristy right now. She did not mean to yell at you or at Charlie. She is feeling sick. Well boo and bullfrogs. If I am feeling sick and I am cross to Andrew I get in trouble. Hmmph. It was not fair. I stomped up stairs to my room. Hannie and Nancy followed me. I do not care what Daddy said. I am gigundoly mad at Kristy. She was mean to me. AND she was mean to Charlie. SHe's not my stepsister, she's my wicked stepsister. Hannie and Nancy nodded. We trooped over to Hannie's house and into her room. We started coloring and I drew a picture of Kristy wearing a witches hat. Suddenly I realized something. Hannie, Nancy!!! I know why Kristy's been mean!! You do? My friends were impressed. Morbiddia Destiny cast a spell on Kristy! SHE made Kristy mean! Just like she put a spell on Booboo and made him fat! (Booboo was Daddy's old cat. He passed away of old age) Nancy and Hannie's eyes got wide. Wow. I bet she did. We stopped coloring. How can we make Kristy not mean anymore? Hmm. I had to think.

Chapter 7 Hannie, Nancy and I thought all day long. We did not know what to do about this. One time, Hannie and I tried to put a spell on the witch to make her go away. But we did not get to. The witch foiled us. Hmm you guys, I need to think of something. We need the old Kristy back! Suddenly I was not angry at Kristy anymore. Not when it was the work of the witch. Yeah. Morbiddia Destiny is a meanie-mo. Nancy said. Hannie agreed. It was close to supper time. Hannie frowned. You know, the witch ruined our day. We were going to get to have pizzas at your daddy's. Now we cannot have pizzas anymore. Wait, maybe we still can! I can ask Daddy if he can bring the pizzas over here. I called up Daddy. Daddy promised he'd bring a box over. (Daddy planned to have pizzas for everyone at the bighouse that night) I felt very excited. At least the witch did not ruin that! The Three Musketeers ate pizza and watched The Wizard of Oz. We told scary stories and before we knew it we had all fallen asleep.

For some reason this bit made me laugh the most. Reading this made me realise that I DO actually like Karen books. I think she is a brat in the BSC books and stopped reading LS a few years ago when I didn't have access to them anymore, so since I was only reading bratty BSC Karen, after awhile I had pretty much decided I didn't want to read LS ever again. Now that I have access to them again, ... I think eventually I'll start to read them.

Chapter 8 I did not feel very good when I woke up the next morning. Boo and bullfrogs. I thought. I would have to go back to the big house and I did not know what to do. I was scared to face Kristy. Especially Kristy under a witch's spell. So I decided to spend as much time at Hannie's as I could. Hannie understood. Nancy's mother came to pick her up so it was just Hannie and I. We ran around outside for a while and played with Hannie's kitten, Pat. If I can just stay here until dinner, I can avoid Kristy. I said. But we have to figure out a spell to get rid of the one that Morbiddia Destiny put on Kristy. Hannie said. Yeah, but how? You do not have any magical herbs and I am too scared to go into Morbiddia Destiny's garden. Besides, Kristy might catch me. I paused. You do not think that Kristy is going to be a witch just like Morbiddia Destiny? What if the spell cannot be removed? I do not think you can turn someone into a witch. At least, I do not think so. Hannie reassured me. Maybe Elizabeth took Kristy to someone who can get rid of the spell? she suggested. No, Daddy and Elizabeth do not believe in witches. Remember? Oh yeah. They did not believe us that time we told them about Morbiddia Destiny's witch meeting. We got into trouble. I think I need to find magical charms to protect me against witches. I annouced. Good idea. Lets look around my room. Hannie suggested. Hannie and I found two purple rings. They seemed magical so we put them on and Hannie had some bracelets that were so glittery we decided that they would protect us as well. Goody. These will protect us. I said. I felt better already. Now if only I could find out what to do with Kristy. Mrs. Papendakis came into Hannie's room. It is time for you Karen to go home. Your father called. Boo and bullfrogs. I did not want to go home. Hannie squeezed my hand. It will be OK Karen. See you monday. Yeah. See you. I started to leave. At least I will be safe in my room. I thought as I walked across the street into the big house.

ice queen you totally need to read LS now that you have access to them. BSC Karen is pretty different from LS Karen. LS Karen is pretty cute and hyper-active. She's got ADHD-ish traits that are endearing. lol.

Chapter 9. I came in and started up the stairs. But Daddy caught me. Karen, Kristy has something to tell you. She's in her room. I stopped and looked at Daddy. OK. I went up the stairs and I was not going to go in my room but Daddy was watching me from the base of the stairs. I was trapped. I could not do anything else but go into Kristy's room. I knocked softly. Come in! Called Kristy. She sounded cheerful. I opened the door. Karen! Kristy got up off her bed and came over to me. SHe wrapped me into a hug. Oh Karen. I am so sorry that I got angry at you yesterday. I did not mean to. She paused. Karen? Your Daddy and Elizabeth agreed that it was best to tell you what is going on. Lets sit down on the bed. I followed her and sat. You see Karen, there comes a time when every girl becomes a woman and she starts her menstration cycle that is known as her period. Girls as young as nine years old can start and they continue to have it until they are very old. During the period, sometimes women experience mood swings, cramping, headaches, and soreness. Yesterday, Karen, I got my period while we were hiking and I was not feeling well. I got cross at Charlie and at you. The period makes me have Pre-menstrual-symptoms, also known as PMS and they make a woman get angry easily. I did not mean to get so angry at you. I am also sorry for using bad words in front of you, Hannie and Nancy. What is a period and how does it work? I asked Well, Karen, every month a woman bleeds out of her private area for a duration of five days. BLEEDS? Oh ew! ew! I said Calm down Karen, it is ok. Every woman has one. It is part of life and growing up. It can be uncomfertable, but there are things you can do to help it be more comfertable. EVERY woman? You mean, Mommy gets one? And Elizabeth, Nancy's mommy and Hannie's mommy? and even Ms. Colman? I asked. Yes Karen. I paused and then I said "So does that mean Nannie does not have one? Because she is old?" You are right Karen. Older women stop menstrating. So Nannie does not. Hmm.. What kind of things can you do to make it more comfortable? I asked. Oh lots of things. Drinking hot drinks helps, hot chocolate helps, using Therma-care heat wraps on your belly stops the cramping. Being careful to not consume too many citrus fruits as well. They can make your cramping worse. Drinking cranberry juice is very helpful too. And of course there is medicine called Midol. It helps take away the pain. This was gigundoly exciting. I cannot wait to start my period! I said. Kristy laughed. Enjoy when you do not have it. This is my third month having it. It gets very annoying because I am rather irregular right now. I should have gotten it 2 weeks later. I did not understand so Kristy explained: A period comes every 28 days so you must count the days on the calendar to get an approximate date when to expect your next. Suddenly, it made sense. You mean, last time when I was here and you got mad at Daddy and Shannon, you could not help it because your period made you do it! That's right. And I hope I do not lose my temper again, but if i do, please try to understand. Oh Kristy! I am so happy! I thought Morbiddia Destiny put a spell on you! I hugged Kristy. Kristy laughed but then said sternly "Do not be bothering Mrs. Porter, Karen. She-" Is just a funny old lady who is eccentric and a little weird. I finished for her and sighed. Grown ups do not understand witches. I understand KRisty. And I hope your period feels better. I went to my room. It was almost dinnertime and I had to stop and think.

Chapter 10 Kristy got her period! I told Moosie. I told Moosie all about it. Moosie was impressed too. I laid on my bed thinking. I remembered this time Mommy yelled at Seth. Was Mommy on her period then? And I remember the time Merry, my nanny seemed tired and cross one day. Merry had to have been on her period! I don't know if I want to get my period after all, Moosie. What if I start yelling and get angry? Then I got a bad thought. What if, what if Daddy divorced Mommy because she got her period? She was yelling an awful lot at Daddy back then. What if he did not like periods? What if Kristy was in trouble because she had her period? What if Daddy did not like Kristy anymore? Yikes, Moosie! This period stuff is scary! I think Daddy divorced Mommy because she got her period and she got mad! Then I thought about something else. What if Kristy got mad at Bart, her sort of boyfriend? What if her period makes her mad? Uh oh. I went back to Kristy's room. Kristy? What's up Karen? Um, please do not get mad at Bart. I asked her. Kristy looked at me funny. What happened? Oh, um nothing, I just did not want you to yell at Bart because your period makes you do it and then Bart does not want to be your girlfriend anymore. I think Daddy divorced Mommy because Mommy got her period. Kristy laughed. Oh Karen, your Daddy did not divorce your Mommy because of her period. I promise you, Karen. How do you know? I asked her. Karen, your Mommy got her period when she was around my age. All women start between the ages of nine and sixteen. Ohh. Well I am glad Daddy did not divorce Mommy because she had her period. Dinner was ready so we went to downstairs to eat.
