I always thought Patrick ran out on his family when he couldn't take that life anymore. The impression I always got was that he rarely contacted his kids for any reason. So a guy like that is most likely not going to pay any kind of financial support even if he's supposed to. I also thought that was the reason that Elizabeth was held up as this single supermom, that she was doing it all on her own after her no good husband ran out on her and left her with nothing and offered no kind of support. Though, I can't remember details that show up or are implied in, like, one book like a lot people on here so maybe there's something I'm missing.

I had a random thought yesterday- when did the divorce actually go through? It sounds like Patrick leaves, Elizabeth is still legally married to him. I'd assume that in order to divorce him he'd've come back, signed papers, then left? I'm confused...

Maybe he did comeback but the kids didn't see him. Like he only met Liz in court or something.

Maybe she'd mail the papers to him? I don't know.

If you don't go through the court you can get a divorce without ever seeing each other face to face. You just have the papers drawn up and have both parties sign them.

Also, if your spouse leaves, you can still file for a divorce by abandonment.

That's been the case since long before no-fault.

I think Patrick probably does doubt being DM's Dad, as that's the onyl reason I can think that he would try to reconnect with the older three, but not DM. Whether it's true or not...

Another reason is that DM was just too young when Patrick left. He probably doesn't remember much about him like he would about Kristy, Sam, and Charlie.

I just can't see Elizabeth cheating on Patrick, even with all the problems there were in the marriage.
I don't think that Elizabeth was trying to play the victim and that she was trying to keep Patrick from seeing their kids. I think the chapters in Kristy's book more or less prove that Elizabeth wasn't trying to keep Patrick away from the kids because Patrick left a second time and he didn't tell Kristy that he would be leaving.

I don't, nor have I ever, thought that Elizabeth cheated. She seems like the type to stick to her marriage vows, even when things go wrong. I bet she didn't even consider dating again until long after her divorce was final.
