(I hope it's OK to post it in this forum, Kylie. If not, feel free to move it.) Some of the members of this board and I got together and decided that the best way to honor Aln1982 would be a book drive, coordinated with the Lisa Libraries, in Afton's memory. We have put together a wishlist of books. To participate, simply purchase off the list. The books will be sent to me, and when the drive is over, I will send them (or drive them over, depending) to the Lisa Libraries office. Special bookplates honoring Afton will be inserted inside, and then they will be donated to libraries across the country. If you have suggestions for books that you think Afton would have liked, please feel free to PM me and I will add them to the wishlist.

Greer, may I just say what a wonderful idea this is.
Unfortunately, I am a bit poor at the moment (combination of this flipping recession and moving house...) but I will try my best to donate something.
This is a really lovely way of honouring her memory and also thanks to you for being kind enough to organise it all.

That's the first time I've heard of the organization, but it sounds like a good idea.

That's the first time I've heard of the organization, but it sounds like a good idea. It's actually a charity Ann set up. I've been talking to the Lisa Libraries for a while getting the logistics worked out, and when fluffycakes wrote Ann a letter about Afton, Ann mentioned our book drive in her response, so I think she is quite involved with it.

I think this is a great idea! How long is the drive going to go on for?

I suppose until we have a solid number of books. The wishlist is looking kind of thin right now, so let me know if you think of any good historical/horse/etc. kids' books we can add.

I can recommend some picture books too (I work in the children's room at the library, and yes, I still flip through picture books lol), or are you just looking for chapter books? I see you put the American Girl books on there (always a wonderful addition), what about any of the Dear America series? As for horse books, there's always the Misty of Chincoteague series! Mallory would be proud.

Dear America is a good idea! Are they still in print?

Dear America is a good idea! Are they still in print? Good question; I'm not too sure, we haven't got new ones in to the library in awhile. I'll PM you a list of other books to look into though!

I hope to be buying some next week, too. I think I've got an okay amount in my bank account, but I'm gonna have to make a credit card payment in order to be able to use my card.
I have a low limit on my credit card on purpose so that I can't have much credit card debt... but this means that it's frequently maxed out.

Ok, it looks like Amazon does have Dear America books available, new, so they're not out of print after all. And I totally forgot to another series that needs to be added...any books by Beverly Cleary!

I will definitely purchase some books very soon. It just will take me a little bit, I am behind on bills and officially had to apply for unemployment yesterday.
Beverly Cleary books and the Dear America books are a great idea. I used to read those all the time and loved them.

This is a great idea, I wish I could donate some books but I have no money and no credit card The books on the wishlist are all really good, I can't really think of any others you could add, maybe the Worst Witch books by Jill Murphy?

Someone could add some books by Marguerite Henry, if we're after horse books.
