Did it bug anyone else that in The Truth About Stacey (or as the series and S's relationship with Charlotte grew, that it never occurred to S to ask Dr. J to become her doctor? It just seemed like since S trusted and felt comfortable with Dr. J that she would have been a good medical match for her? I can also understand how that might have been why (at least initially) a reason why S did not want Dr. J as a doctor...for fear of losing their relationship. Any thoughts?

I think it was because Doctor Johanssen was an ER doctor and couldn't provide Stacey with pediatric services.

What kind of Doctor was Dr J anyway? I'm assuming she was just a general practitioner, but Dr is a pretty broad term so now that I've forgotten, I'm curious.
Anyway, I guess the McGills would have found a Stoneybrook doctor for Stacey the instant they arrived so perhaps they established a relationship with a Doctor and then didnt want to change to a different centre/doctor after that.
Stacey and Dr J did have a good relationship, and I like that Stacey felt comfortable asking her things.

Was she a pediatrician? Maybe I'm thinking of Dr. Dellenkamp.

Dr. J definitely was an ER doc...it was mentioned in mary anne to the rescue, and maybe other books as well but that's the only one that comes to mind... and she definitely wasn't a diabetes specialist. And about the pediatrician... I got the impression that the older girls didn't GO to a pediatrician.... mainly got this impression from #35 when stacey mentioned when she went to a pediatrician and how it hadn't really changed.

I don't think Stacey went to a pediatrician, either. From my own personal experience, I was going to the family doc by the time I was 13, so it doesn't seem strange to me that Stacey wouldn't be seeing Dr. Dellenkamp.
What does seem strange to me is that it is almost always Dr. J at home when the girls come to sit. Maybe I've been brained washed by Grey's Anatomy into thinking that doctors have really messed up schedules and are never really at home, but you'd think we would see more of Mr. J than Dr. J. (I should know this since my dad's a doctor as well, but he's a pathologist and has always had the 9-5 type hours.) At the beginning of the series, we saw more of Mr. J, but later on it seemed to be more of Dr. J at the house. Oh well, that's just my random thought for the day!

Thanks for all the replies. I thought Dr. J was an Er doc, myself until reading in one of the books that she was the pediatrican of one of the bsc's clients! Editing this years later to say Dr. J was doctor to Norman and Sarah Hill. Fluffycakes, I hear you and agree. Dr. J had a very odd schedule. The only thing I can think of is maybe she was a pediatrican with a semi-private hospital based (as opposed to some medical offices) practice. The rest of the time she maybe served in the ER which was why she was often there? Also, other than the one family I can't remember, was Dr. J a doctor to any BSC client that anyone knows of?

I think the Johanssens might have introduced the Hills to the BSC, but it might not have had the context of Dr. J being the Hills' pediatrician.

Some pediatricians do adolescent medicine as well but not all.

I've never read #3, so I haven't ever come across too much evidence of Dr J and Stacey's supposed great relationship.. It's just always mentioned whenever Stacey sits for Charlotte how close they are. Is there any greater depth examples of this other than #3 and the casual mentions?

I kind of think that Stacey wanted Dr. J. as a friend-type consultant to have as a second opinion. It's nice to have that in case they don't want to put complete trust in one doctor all of the time.

I think Stacey had her diabetes doctor as her main doctor. Dr J. would probably be fine for, say, if Stacey got sick, but she would definitely need someone who was a specialist to treat her diabetes.
