Who do you think was the most popular sitter, back in the BSC's glory days?
I think probably Stacey, because her being so sophisticated appealed to the target audience the most, and her stories were more dramatic than other sitters.

Stacey was always the most popular sitter in all the surveys they did. That's why had her move back from NYC.

I'm kinda annoyed that the Barbie Doll girl with fancy clothes and boyfriends was the one who little girls liked the most. To me Stacey was just a stereotype of a typical teenage girl and therefore I didn't think she was very interesting.

To me Stacey was just a stereotype of a typical teenage girl and therefore I didn't think she was very interesting. I feel the same way. I didn't like Stacey because to me she seemed like a mean, popular girl, one who would have made fun of me (I was a total Tess Swinehart) in middle school. It seems like Mary Anne is pretty popular, too. While I generally like Mary Anne, I think her passive aggressiveness and crying to get out of situations is quite annoying and sends a bad message.

I was super unpopular and still liked Stacey. Probably because I've always been fascinated by fashion and am pretty boy-crazy myself.

I'm the same as Greer, I wasn't popular when reading the books, but was so into fashion and boys, (even at 6!) and wanted to be Stacey. Even reading SVH, I wanted to be Jess

Yeah, same here. I though Stacey had her good qualities in addition to just being "sophisticated," she was a good student, was close to her mom, etc.

Yep Stacey was my favorite as well... and I was definitely NOT popular in school. I wished I were more like her (except for the diabetes), confident, pretty, popular, smart etc etc etc etc.

I think most everyone wants to live through Stacey- she was the most realistic of the gang. She had a lot of intrests and a family life that probably resembeled a good fraction of the readers. Her 'bad' qualities are very recognizable and I also think that's why a lot of fans don't like her.
Agreed with MA being a close second though.

I would say Stacey because she always had the most sophistication. I also agree that she was the most realistic.

I don't know if Stacey was quite "realistic." She is a math genius with the looks of a fashion model who every boy apart from Logan Bruno wants to date. Her life doesn't exactly match the reality that most 9-year-old bookworms experience.

I've always loved Dawn I liked the way she was always dressed the way she wanted to and didn't care what other people thought. Except in Dawns big date where she gets all crazy.

Greer- I knew girls like Stacey: sophisticated fashion plates with a 'd**ks before chicks' thinking. Perhaps the readers of the BSC were more Mallory then Stacey, but we all knew a Stacey.

And how many of those fashion plates were as well-rounded as Stacey? She's not only attractive and popular, but ALSO arguably the smartest regular BSC member. All while handling her diabetes heroically and being from NYC!
Stacey is/was popular because she is what readers WANT to be like when they're thirteen, not because she has any resemblance to reality.
