But that's because she's lovably dorky!

Plus, she's dorky but still manages to snag a boyfriend and be elected secretary of the sixth grade!

^ yeah, funny how that happened, considering she was bullied so extensively she was driven out of Stoneybrook Middle School.

^ I guess it shows that even if you're a sturdy 11 yr old with wild, curly red hair, freckles galore, huge glasses, braces and no sparkly sweatshirts, you can attract the attention of many a boy, including a 'cool' 15 yr old who prefers you over the beautiful, chic, NYC girl.
Speaking of the glasses and braces, initially Jessi wore glasses for reading and was going to get braces. Funnily enough, that never happened.

Another one of those inconsistences that drives me mad. I don't remember if it was this board that I mentioned that, or the old one.

Then you've got Mary Anne who actually wanted glasses. I don't think they mention that much. You'd think she'd need them while using the record book.

In her Portrait Collection, there's a whole section devoted to her lying on her eye test so she could get glasses.

I think MA got contacts in the fourth or fifth book because - "her father had become less strict"

Wait... Mary Anne lied to GET glasses? What the heck? Why?! There's a new girl in her class she becomes friends with who has glasses, and Mary Anne thinks they look really cool, so she wants them too

I see why there are barely/no ugly people in the BSC but it doesn't explain why everyone outside the club are beautiful.
All if not most of the girls in sms are gorgeous or cute and have modelling contracts. There has never been an ugly boy we've come across. (Fat people don't count.)

The only time it was even HINTED at was when Cokie and Grace wouldn't let a girl (Ellie, I think her name was) hang around with them until her "complexion clears up" - in Starring the BSC. But that was because the chapter was written from the Cokie's perspective. Maybe they don't want to portray the BSC as shallow bitches who make comments about their ugly classmates, even if it's just an observation to the reader. Still, I know what you're saying, there's no uglies in BSC Land.
It's like Sweet Valley. Everyone was beautiful in that town, even the plain girl only needed to remove her glasses, have her hair cut and dab on some lip gloss to look gorgeous. And the fat girl, who'd been bullied her entire life, only had to run around the track a few times in order to lose all the weight and become one of the most popular girls in school.
