Yeah Claud can be immature that way, she stuck out her tongue at Stacey in Mary Anne Saves The Day as well. But, why did Claudia stick out her tongue out at Mal in NYC?

I was reading Kristy and the Snobs the other day, and Kristy and Shannon stick their tongues out at one another, too. Geez. Grow up. I didn't go around sticking my tongue out at people when I was in grade eight. Then again, they all act like mini-adults most of the time, so I guess they're entitled and I shouldn't complain.

"But, why did Claudia stick out her tongue out at Mal in NYC? "
Claud was upset because the art instructor was friendlier with Mal than her.

"Claud was upset because the art instructor was friendlier with Mal than her." Yeah Claud's so sophisticated and mature Never understood the whole "Claudia and Mean Janine book," personally I always thought that Claudia was being more of a cow to Janine.

Totally agree about Claud and Mean Janine. Of course, Claudia always kind of bugs me and I like Janine and can relate much more to her. I think Claudia is super jealous of Janine... but that's a whole other topic. So is Claud sticking her tongue out at Mal but that really bugged me too. Real mature!

Bringing up a very old topic, but I also couldn't stand the way the fat people were given such stereotypical 'fat kid' names, Norman and Ethel... in one of the books (I think it was the Winter Vacation super special), the SMS kids made up a really horrible rhyme about Ethel... I was very surprised to find that in a BSC book.

I was surprised to hear that rhyme as well in a BSC book. I am glad I wasn't the only one.

I always thought it was terrible how they called Norman "enormous" Hill, though I guess kids can relate to this. Wonder if being overweight is such a big deal now since so many kids are.... It always bothered me how they said things like "someday Mal might be pretty" and my all time favorite is that Jerry liked Janine "In SPITE of how she looked." Just reread that the other day and it always irritates me - how about "no matter what she looked like"? That sounds much better. But Jerry was a jerk ;D

^ When I was in elementary school (late 80's to early 90's), the chubby kids always got the attention because they were different. Now, being skinny is what gets you more attention. I'm betting both groups get teased, though.

It sometimes feels like no matter what you are, fat or skinny or even in between people will find something to make fun of you for if they really want to. At least that is what I have observed.

^ the BSC sent mixed messages. It was like oh, brown hair, brown eyes = boring, whereas blue eyes, blonde hair or Exotic Asian Girl = gorgeous, without mentioning features or whether the face was truly attractive. There are plenty of beautiful brunette women with brown eyes. It really doesn't automatically equal plain. And plenty of blonde/blue women are not attractive either. completely, completely agreed. it always bugged me how mary anne and kristy were described as looking alike, "both on the short side, with brown eyes and brown hair". oh, okay. i guess i also resemble every other girl who's on the short side with brown eyes and brown hair. dawn and stacey are blonde and blue eyed and are never described as looking "somewhat alike". it has nothing to do with coloring and everything to do with facial structuring. also, the whole "brown hair and eyes" thing was always described to make them sound more plain and mousy than the others.

^ Never thought of that but you're right. Also agree about there always being something people will make fun of.

Yeah, kids will make fun of you for anything in elementary school. I was always made fun of for being the tallest girl in my grade.

I was made fun of for being quiet in elementary school. If only they could see me now...I am not like that at all anymore
