^ Dawn could live a storage unit. I don't know. It's cheaper.

^ A 13 year old renting an apartment. I can read it now. Dawn: I rent an apartment, in California. After my dad died. I'm so sad about this. I'm angry with Carol. My mom wants me to moved to Connecticut. As if. With my baby-sitting money. I'm renting a cheap apartment. That's the only way, 13 year old can afford. It's run down, but its better than living with Carol or the state of Connecticut. I might need a second job. Probably Claire's or working at the public pool. That would be an interesting chapter 2.

Yeah, sure will. Be fun to read Dawn's chapter 2's.

I wonder how the others will mention Dawn's living arrangements in Chapter 2.

^ In Mary Anne's chapter 2s, after she explains for the 200th time how "strict" Richard was to her in seventh grade, she'd probably say,"But Dad is still Dad--Dawn lives in her very own apartment and he won't even let me rent an apartment!"
The others would probably just maybe casually mention that Dawn lives in an apartment, I don't know...

^ Mallory, you crack me up, the way Mary Anne, will describe about Dawn, having her own apartment.
I think, Kristy, will say: My step-dad, is rich, he bought me, a luxury apartment. Karen, will be jealous, her older sister, got her own apartment, but she didn't get her own apartment.
Mallory: Would be like. Dawn, got her own apartment, in California. My parents, won't let me, get my own apartment, here in Connecticut. My parents are treating me like a child.

Ha-ha, I can so imagine Mallory complaining on and on about how her parents treats her like a baby only because she isn't allowed to rent her own apartment!

I had to write it down, on this forum.

I don't. I think Sharon would have them both come and live at home with her, and let them go to College in California. I'm sure they could both visit occassionally, but I don't think for one second she'd let them live out there without a parent. And Carol isn't their parent. I was going to say this exact thing again, so obviously my view hasn't changed! Haha!

Maybe Sharon world put on her big girl pants and drag Jeff and Dawn kicking and screaming back to Connecticut. Since Dawn is under 18, she has no choice in the matter.

If Jack had died when Dawn was under eighteen, Dawn would naturally go live with her mum...where else would she live?

Legally Dawn (and Jeff) would have no choice in the matter and be forced back to CT unless Carol adopted them. Then the option would be presented to them. Dawn would pick to be close to her mom and Jeff might pick carol though.

I actually see Sharon moving to California instead. Her kids both live there and they just lost their dad. She can pick up and move while her kids are grieving. It would be kinder than forcing them to move back to a city they both already rejected. She couldn't move back into her original house because Carol is there now, but she lived in Anaheim for like two decades so it's still her home.
I see this happening even if it's not a permanent move. Dawn is a year away from starting high school, so if they stay in California for a year, that still gives them a year to grieve in their dad's space before uprooting them. Or maybe they move back in four years when Jeff starts high school. Dawn would be partway through high school, but she still has tons of friends in Stoneybrook so it wouldn't be quite as bad.
Sharon being away from Mary Anne is kind of no big deal to me because she's used to being a long-distance parent already. But being away from Richard would be a bigger deal. I've been long distance with my husband many, many times because of his career and you learn to live with it. It's never fun but it's part of the job. He couldn't leave his practice and he wouldn't want to move Mary Anne anyway. Maybe he could take a sabbatical and they just move the home family to Anaheim for a bit but I don't know. I know nothing of how lawyers work.

I think Sharon and Richard contemplated leaving Stoneybrook in the Friends Forever series. Mary Anne was good with it so she would have an excuse to break up Logan. (Completely healthy thinking.) I could see Sharon spending some extended time in CA to get things situated and then the whole family being together in a neutral territory.
